The Vampiress Darcia XI

Talen recoiled in agony as the pain slowly spread from his right side to his left. He knew that his sire was beginning to burn under the sunlight's rays. He collapsed against the wall, his eyes gaining a red tint while his fangs started to extend. He ground his teeth and gathered the strength to get to his feet. Talen then painfully began to walk to the dungeon where Darcia and Drake were kept.1

-------------------2

Drake almost reconsidered freeing the vampiress that now screamed in agony from the sunlight touching her once-flawless skin. Darcia didn't look at all the same before the sun "kissed" her flesh. She looked like a wild animal about to snap.3

Shaking himself from his nervousness, Drake rushed over to Darcia, grabbed the chains that bound her and pulled with all his strength. Lady Luck must have felt pitty for him, for the chains pulled lose without too much of resistance. As soon as Darcia felt her arms were free she clawed and scrambled at the floor, trying to get away from the sunlight and carved jagged marks in the stone floor in the process. 4

Drake immediately picked up the thrashing vampiress and carried her to the farthest part of the room that was in shadow. Darcia's adrenaline had stopped pumping and she was now breathing raggedly in exhaustion and pain. Drake held her bridal style as gently as possible so as to cause any more pain than necessary. He sat against the wall and set her in his lap. 5

Darcia had long calmed down by now, her fangs retracted and now just looked like slightly overdeveloped canine teeth and her eyes returned to normal, yet now they were closed. Drake supported the weight of Darcia's head with his arm.. He then examined the many burns on the vampiress's skin.6

The flesh was burned to a degree that it was almost black. The area of damage covered over half of Darcia's body, mostly her right side. Burns visible on her chest and stomach were the worst since they were exposed the longest. The scalded flesh varied in colors from black, dark brown and a deep red. 7

Burns continued upwards as well. The sun had also spread to Darcia's neck completely and the skin there had burned easily since it was a tender part of the body. Damaged so bad in fact, that it effected Darcia's breathing. 8

Drake pitied Darcia's condition and tried to keep her awake long enough to speak with her.9

"Darcia, why isn't your body isn't healing itself?" asked the council-leader.10

Darcia cracked an eye open to look up at Drake, "..Too weak...."11

Drake frowned slightly..then his eyes widened in realization. She needed blood. And there wasn't any safe way to get it to her during the day. Steeling himself, Drake made an offer that Darcia hadn't expected:12

"Take my blood, Darcia."13

Darcia opened her eyes half-way and looked up at Drake in question. Drake said nothing and gently lifted Darcia so she sat up and rested against his chest, her head resting on his shoulder. He then lowered his head so that his neck pressed against Darcia's lips.14

But the vampiress turned her head away, mumbling protests like "No" and "Can't". Drake sighed softly and prepared to give Darcia a small adrenaline boost. He'd have to provoke her into feeding from him. He carefully picked up Darcia's burnt hand/wrist and whispered a soft apology. He then gave Darcia's wrist a firm squeeze.15

The next thing he knew, he heard and felt small vibrations against his chest. He dared to look down at Darcia's face but didn't have to look much, for he saw her fangs begin to extend. Releasing her wrist, Drake bent his head yet again and soon felt the little pricks of Darcia's fangs against his neck. 16

Instead of feeling an excruciating pain as expected, he only felt a momentary pain and then the soft feeling of Darcia's tongue as she lapped at the blood coming from the small bite mark on Drake's neck.17

Darcia didn't want to feed from Drake, but she knew that unless they were to get out of here, she would have to. She promised herself, however, to only feed as much as she needed to. Not enough to kill Drake yet enough to heal her wounds. 18

Drake began to feel slightly dizzy a few minutes after being bitten. But it was paying off. Darcia's wounds were beginning to fade and soon she would cease the feeding before she lost control. After another few minutes, Darcia was completely healed and Drake was simply light-headed but okay too. Darcia's fangs retracted again and she stood up. Bending backwards alittle, she cracked her back, then her knuckles, neck, and knees.19

-------------------20

The pain suddenly stopped. Talen frowned. That was not good. Either Darcia had died from the sun or she had somehow disconnected the link between them (which was impossible). Talen cautiously approached the dungeon door. After taking a deep breathe, he quickly opened the door and the first thing he saw was a pair of fiery golden eyes.21
