CHAPTER ONE – A NEWFOUND POWER1
I woke up, and hastily sat up, realising I was soaking in sweat, even though it was quite a chilly night. I glanced over to the digital clock by the wall, struggling to read the red numbers. 3:47 AM. I never wake up that early. I took the covers off my bed, hoping to cool back down, rolled over, and fell asleep instantly. 2
Again, I woke up. I was still covered in sweat, despite the fact I was shivering at the same time. I looked for the clock to see how long I was asleep for, but couldn’t find it. I switched my desk-lamp on, but it didn’t turn on. It suddenly flickered on, and as quickly as it came on, it turned itself off again. 3
For a couple of minutes, it continually flashed on and off until I stumbled out of bed to unplug the light. I returned to bed, and as soon as I did, the light flashed again. Confused, I pulled the light bulb out of the lamp and placed it on my desk.4
I lay down to try and go back to sleep, closed my eyes, and saw light behind my eyelids. I wearily re-opened my eyes, and saw another flash. I jumped out of bed, extremely scared, and waited for another flash. 5
After a few minutes, I saw another flash. It was the bulb that I took out earlier. Somehow, it was still able to light up, with no current flowing through it. I was really starting to get scared now. I felt around the desk, for anything solid, and found what felt like a dollar coin. So I picked it up, and stabbed the light globe with it.6
I heard a small shattering of glass sound. The globe was broken. Hopefully this would stop the flashing. “Best dollar I’ve ever spent!” I whispered, before realising there was no one around to hear me anyway. I got back into bed, and again, quickly fell asleep, still covered in sweat.7
When I woke up again, I felt great. No more sweat, no longer cold. And I could see the time. It was 10:18. But it was eerily dark. I glanced out the window, seeing nothing. No stars. No moon. And no street lights. I got out of bed and tried to turn the light on. No luck. It wouldn’t turn on. I tried the lights in other rooms, but none of them would turn on either. 8
I knew it couldn’t be a power outage because I could still see my clock. And I was able to turn my television on for a little light. Enough light to be able to move around the room without walking into anything at least. But the screen was still darker than normal.9
I picked the light bulb up off of my desk, and played with the wires of it. I reconnected the main wire, and it lit up briefly, scaring me, making me drop the bulb. I noticed though, that when it was connected, the other lights I’d attempted to turn on also came on. 10
I tried to connect the bulb again, with more care and accuracy this time. I was able to fix it, and like before, all the other lights came back on. It instantly lit up outside and everything seemed normal again. I was still confused how my one light bulb could affect all other lights though. 11
Just to test whether it really was my light bulb, I disconnected it again. It went dark. Inside. Outside. Everywhere. No light at all. I couldn’t believe it. I held all the power of the universe. Or at least when it’s all lit up. If I didn’t use my power wisely, or if I even managed to lose the bulb for just a minute, I could really mess up the world. 12
After nearly three months of owning this magical globe, I was starting to get sick of blacking out the universe just because of a slight slip, knocking the wire out of place. No one had yet found out that I possessed this power, but was nearly found out quite a few times. It was just too risky. I had to get rid of the light.13
I thought that maybe I could make some money out of it, and decided to sell it on eBay. Not the smartest idea I’d ever had, even I know that now! Although I did receive a substantial sum of money, I forgot to mark the package as fragile. I took it to the post office, ready to be sent off, and left it with them. Suddenly, the lights went out...

Lol This was pretty neat. I thought it was unique and interesting. I could clearly picture the scene that you were describing, and the struggle between the character and the lamp. The ending triggered my interest and kept me interested. It was kind of like a cliffhanger, making me have a need for more. lol Very good write. Keep up the great work.

I like the ending, it seems to me and Icould be very wrong. That it might do better as a short story. the beginning, I found it not to holding my interest, however I had a feeling I would like the end. Anyways their you have it good luck with everything.

Thanks. I didn't really know where I was going with it when I started to write the introduction, so I guess that's why you didn't like it so much.
I'm glad you like the end though.
I've just put the second chapter up if you want to read it, don't feel that you have to though.
Thanks again for the comment and applause

Great Skeleton
I think for this to just be the first chapter, the first paragraph seems a bit awkwardly written to me. It's like I can sort of get a grasp of the story but that starting paragraph sets me off in an odd way compared to the rest of your story. Nevertheless kudos on orginality. Keep penning -
A humorous tragedy, eh? Very interesting concept, and very original. There wasn't much background on this; I have no idea who this person is, how old they are, etc. But perhaps it's irrelevant or you'll get to it later. Kewl ^^
Very interesting.

Thanks
Yeah, I do go into a little of personal details in future chapters, but it's not much really. Although I don't think it is really necessary, especially age, since I didn't even know what age he was until you made me think about it with what you said.
Thanks for the advice.
