“What the hell?” Jayden asked when he saw the unknown car and my reaction to the car.1
“I have a feeling I know who the car belongs to,” I sad. “Look at the license plate number. 1-BRBGRL.” My voice turned stone cold.2
“So?” Jayden asked not following my meaning. The confusion was obvious in his voice.3
“It means number on Barbie girl,” I took a deep breath to calm down and looked at Jayden. “Barbie girl is Lauren.”4
“Oh,” he understood. “What do we do?”5
“Well, now would be a good time to tell me what Lauren said about me at lunch,” I suggested hoping that he’d agree and tell me.6
“Okay, just please don’t be embarrassed when I tell you. Remember that it got us here. You have nothing to fear,” he started, making me nervous.7
“I’ll be the judge of that,” I argued with a giggle.8
“Okay. Well, Lauren said that she noticed you watching me during the entire class period in Algebra, like it was a bad thing. I doubted it, though, because you would have seen me looking at you,” he paused and looked at me cautiously. Natalya was right, he was looking at me. I blushed. “But then she said that she noticed my constant glances at you as well, and that I’m not your type.” How would Lauren know my type? “She said that you’re not into guys.” Jayden’s voice got quiet. “So then I thought to myself that I would just become a good friend, it was as close as I could get to you, and I was having a hard time staying away. I was weakening.”9
“She told you that I’m a lesbian?” I asked in disbelief. Lauren had done some nasty things, but that was low. “That’s completely absurd! She only said that because she likes you, and because I haven’t ever had a boyfriend before,” I explained slightly embarrassed.10
“That’s a relief,” Jayden said. It sounded like he was trying to hint at something with those few words, but I didn’t quite catch what.11
“So she told you that I was a lesbian, and then she gave my number out to random guys.” I giggled at Lauren’s expense. “That girl needs to make up her mind. All those hairspray fumes must be getting to her.” I knew that the two weeks I would have to live with her would be very long.12
“Yes, she does,” Jayden chuckled. He seemed relieved and glad that I wasn’t angry.13
I laughed with him, it was too hard not too. “So what are we supposed to do now?” I questioned.14
“Well,” he started, “I do have an idea.”15
I became instantly curious and had to has for details when he didn’t elaborate. “What is your idea?”16
He was quiet for a moment, but finally spoke. “I figure that we have two choices. One, we could leave now, and I could play for you another time, or,” he paused again nervously, “we could not run, and we can go inside and act like this is a date, more so that it already is.” Again with the hints.17
Personally, I preferred the second choice, but I was slightly confused at what he meant. “What do you mean by the second option? Do you mean go in there and pretend that you’re my boyfriend?”18
His eyes showed an emotion I couldn’t completely comprehend. Was he nervous? “Well yes, or…” again he paused.19
The silence seemed like too much, so I urged him to go on. “Or what?”20
With a deep breath he continued, “Or we don’t have to pretend at all, and you can actually be my girlfriend.” During this, his eyes never left mine once, he was serious.21
“I like the second choice,” I bravely admitted.22
Jayden’s eyes widened, and he seemed shocked that I’d accepted. “Really? Are you sure?”23
I touched my cold hand to his, and he gasped closing his eyes. “I’m positive.” I almost didn’t recognize my own voice as I said that. It was seductive and sweet, but still serious.24
Jayden breathed a sight of relief at my words and softly closed his fingers around mine. I smiled and looked into his now open eyes. “Shall we go in then?” I asked.25
“Just one more thing. We have to make this look like we’ve been a couple for long than five minutes.” Jayden was right. This had to be convincing.26
“But how…,” I started, but before I finished, Jayden leaned in, catching me off-guard, and touched his lips to mine.27
The kiss was short, but when he pulled away, I was breathless. My first kiss was with the guy of my dreams, literally. It was amazing.28
My look must have been shocked because Jayden chuckled and looked at me apologetically. “Sorry, maybe it was too soon for that,” he said.29
“No, not at all. It just shocked me that’s all. I’ve really never had a boyfriend before,” I explained honestly.30
“We can talk about this once we get rid of your, uh, sister,” he struggled to find the right words to explain Lauren.31
“Let’s go, babe,” I said, but I second guessed saying the last word when his face became shocked. “Maybe I shouldn’t have said that,” I backtracked.32
“No,” he leaned in and kissed my cheek, “it just surprised me. I’ve never had a girlfriend call me that before. I like the sound of it. Shall we go?”33
Jayden and I got out of the car, our faces practically glowing. He grabbed my hand and led me up the walk to his door.34
“Oh, and I should warn you that my twin brother is a classic jock, you might know him. He didn’t live with Dad, he stayed with Mom after the divorce, and I got forced with dad,” Jayden cautioned.35
“I’ll be fine as long as you don’t leave me alone,” I told him. This time it was the one to reach up and kiss his cheek.36
With a smile and a squeeze of my hand, Jayden opened the door to the beautiful brick house. Just as we both expected, Lauren waited in the living room.37
“Bro, we need to talk,” the guy I recognized as Craig Smith, the varsity football quarter back, pulled Jayden’s arm the second we entered the house.38
“Whoa, Craig, chill!” Jayden’s voice was full of authority as he took his arm back from his brother’s strong grasp. It was then that I suddenly realized Jayden was a senior, not a junior. I was in mostly junior and senior mixed classes, I never once thought twice about him not being my age.39
I looked at Jayden and his brother silently communicate with looks and pointing. The resemblance was amazing. Their eyes and hair were the same dark shade, skin was the same pale color, and they were the same height. But Jayden’s hair was longer, and his frame was more sleek, while Craig was a bit taller and had extra muscular bulk.40
“We’ll talk about this later, Craig. My girlfriend has something she needs to say to her sister,” Jayden spoke, breaking the slightly long silence.41
“Okay, go ahead, Brie,” Craig said to me. That threw me off guard. I forgot that I had Craig in gym so he would obviously know my name.42
“Uh… okay,” I said gaining confidence when Jayden tightened his grasp on my hand.43
“What would you ever need to say to me? I have your life under my control,” Lauren taunted.44
“You have my life under your control? How so?” I pushed. “You told Jayden I was a lesbian, so he decided it would be a good chance to become friends and get to know me, and now I have an amazing boyfriend. Keep in mind that my boyfriend happens to be the guy you like. You were giving my number out in the hallway to guys, not very smart if you want people to think I’m a lesbian by the way, and that’s how Jayden got my number to call and surprise me. I don’t see how you’re hurting my life at all.” I was surprised by my will to stand up to her so strongly around my new boyfriend.45
“Now, Brie, see, that’s where you’re wrong,” Lauren argued. “Starting Wednesday, you’re on my turf for two weeks. Guess how you got there. That’s right. I told Daddy all about your new rebel boyfriend, and he can’t wait to have his eyes on you.”46
My eyes narrowed, it was Lauren’s idea. Not Dad’s. I decided to play along. “Actually, Lauren, you’re the one who’s wrong with that. I was relieved when my mom told me I was staying at Dad’s for two weeks. My house is so lonely when nobody is home. Plus, it’s easier for me to cut your hair in your sleep if I’m in the same house, now isn’t it,” I added, my eyes showing that I was serious. It was a definite possibility,47
Lauren looked shocked, and scared, at the last part of my speech, and Jayden seemed taken aback by my evil attitude towards my so-called sister. “Now, babe,” I continued turning towards Jayden, “you were going to show me your music room.”48
Jayden’s look questioned how I knew about his music room, but instead of asking me then, he said, “Of course, this way.” He put his arm around me and led me down the same set of stairs, to the same door, and into the same room.49
As soon as the door was closed behind us, Jayden had me pressed against the door in a sexy way. “You’re devious, you know that? It’s incredibly sexy.” His lips pressed against mine, and after our second breath-taking kiss, he lead me to the drum set.50
The song he played was the same, and when it ended I was expecting him to ask if I liked it. Instead, he hit the cymbal one last time with his hand and spun to face me. “So, how did you know about my music room?”51
He dared me to tell him. I took a deep breath and looked into Jayden’s eyes, rising slowly to my feet.52
