Opposites Attract Chapter 5

Maddie came over after school for the next few days after my whole trauma. That's why she's such a great friend, because even though she wants to hang out with Derek, she'll come to be with me first. 1

Finally, on Saturday, AFTER Freddy came home from Saturday school, we gathered in Derek's tree house for pizza and discussion. And this time Maddie came too since she was already over at my house. 2

"Okay people!" Freddy got our attention as Kevin dragged himself up the last rung of the ladder. "Now, I know that me and Derek snuck into the Music Room yesterday to check on how James was doing. I think he got some other kids in on the plan becuase more than one chair is 'decorated'. But as long as he doesn't know the original people who told him to do it, we're fine."3

I diverged my attention over to Maddie and Derek every few seconds to see them either giggling or smiling at each other. 4

"So," Freddy continued, "we have almost completed the whole UA system people! But Maddie just has to do the art room and we are done." 5

Maddie didn't even look like she was paying attention. 6

"Yo, Fred, Maddie and I have to leave early, I just forgot." I said, really annoyed. I stood up, grabbed Maddie by her arm, and dragged her out of the tree house. 7

As we were walking across the street, I turned to face her, and put my hands on both of her shoulders. "Maddie, why don't you just ask him out?" 8

Maddie looked really scared for a second, then she softened. "I don't know, he's kind of cute, but..I don't know."9

"Maddie, you don't know what? You guys are like, the mushiest love birds I've ever seen. If your not going to ask him, I will."10

"What? No Dem, NO!" Maddie said, as I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Derek's number.11

"Hey, Derek, it's Demi. Yeah, Maddie wants to know if you'll go out with her." Maddie turned a dark scarlet in the middle of the road. 12

"Uhhhhhhhhh....." There was a long silence on the other end. "Yeah, sure." 13

I flipped closed the phone. "Ok, it's done, your going out, great!" I didn't know why I was being so harsh, what was wrong with me?14

"O-ok," Maddie stuttered, "wait Dem, where are you going?"15

"Home, duh!" I said, not turning back. I stepped inside the front door, and slammed it behind me.16
