american voting thoughts from a canadian

actually taking a stand on the politics stuff1

here i go debate-inciting... as i say... to read this as one opinion and give me yours as well, i'd really appreciate some objective feedback on this issue as i do live north of the border, but i have been reading the national post and following your elections for the last two months so i'm far from clueless, so here's a Canadian revolution... war-mongering never did do much good, try peacekeeping, it's just as hardcore having to clean up the mess and try to get a country to co-operate again, so unless Bush is going to learn that style, then ta heck with him on international relationships...2

Kerry on the other hand... he's not afraid to go toe-to-toe with Bush, gets out there and get to know the people, read he was mega-rich, like Arnold said, "i can't be bought by special interest groups because i already have enough money" so as a result he'll actually do stuff for the state more objectively, what's to say Kerry won't do the same thing and make some progress, not to say it will make him above leaning towards particular agendas but it will be one less strain3

the rest of my rant is more objective4

you should be more interested to look into both policians' business careers and see what kinda CEO and employer the guy was, if he was using modern methods to keep employees healthy, physically and mentally, was a good leader, learned what his company, clients and employees were all about, and had more success from of them because they trusted him and saw him get his hands dirty learning their jobs to stay in touch and on top of his business and market corner, i don't know if Kerry inherited the wealth or not but he could have lost it all, if you can manage a large business, a country can't be that much different, neither is Bush's ranch and oil business back in Texas, when it has the bureaucracy in place, a company or country can do a lot of good, and there's lots of ways to make a bureaucracy efficient5

as to the public speaking, Bush just needs to work on his honesty, he forgets a bunch of national security issues occasionally when he's talking, but mocking his mannerism of speaking and accent is childish... a polished, confident, speaker is straight to the point and mentally prepared and able to answer questions in the middle of his speech shouldn't need a script writer, so both of them are sorta equal on that, bush is funny once in a while, Kerry from what i suppose can't be that bad either when he loosens up, by being formal, he forces people to judge him on his ideas and actions, not his humour and chummy-ness one of the boys kinda guy like we've watched Bush do, donning military gear or playing golf6

GOOD CEO's should be confident to make a few jokes, if Kerry knows his business from top to bottom and doesn't flinch to make decisions that he's researched properly, he'll do way better then someone who sits in office and looks good practicing his putting game, puppeteered by his board of directors, that's why i'm actually happier up here with Paul Martin as prime minister, the other parties scare me sometimes, and sadly the more openminded party is just too inexperienced yet... Martin was a CEO of a massive shipping company before he was a politician, much more trust in business then i am with a bunch of backstabbing lawyers making laws to loopholes for their retirement pensions, it isn't necessarily true of all lawyers or business guys like anything else7

as far as influences go, why are a lot more actors and musicians siding with Kerry? they're more aware of social issues then you'd think, how could you play a part of someone who you had no connection of? how could you sing about stuff that you have never had to deal with? the ones who actually bother to think more then just listening to their booking agents are quite intelligent, well read and hopefully aware of their actions influencing their fans, no comment on the pop-stars though8

don't let religion get in the way to buy your vote on pro-abortion or not, same to the gay marriages, they already happen, legal or not, china legalized abortion 30 years ago because they knew they couldn't support such a huge population, gay marriage is a new age issue so religion is still adjusting to the times, but don't hate people for their lifestyle, the issues are just campaign platforms to get people riled up, yes they are undoubtedly important but people's & fetuses' civil rights should be respected no matter who's elected9

and as for war... at least Kerry made it to Vietnam for some first hand experience instead of Bush who listens to generals, would he send hi son to iraq? it's part of looking after your foreign interests and affects people at home if left unchecked, some is healthy, creates jobs, opens new markets (which has some positive impacts on human rights) and gives security, but aggressively pre-empatively looking for fights is crap, too long and too hard, the gulf b.s. has been going on 12 years, twice as long as WWII, isn't it time to figure it out and find some more peaceful opinions? better off using those troops for peacekeeping and protecting aid workers and engineers to improve a conflict torn country10

look into world and local economics, stretched social and health programs, political past history, gun rights, & foreign relations, aka do some bloody homework before you bother to vote and make an informed opinion... that'll be a lot better off then sitting here slagging Bush & Kerry11

do us a favour up here Canada way and vote responsibly as it's up to you to do your part to make sure the right guy gets in power12

thanks for listening13

Well, Phil the proverbial pill. Now ain't it sad that a canuck knows and understands more 'bout voting in the U.S. than most 'mericans do? You made some excellent points and seemed more levelheaded than most. Americans are some of the laziest and most deliberately ignorant people on earth. Easily lead and\or herded. And if you scare them a bit they lead even easier. And politicians count on being able to manipulate the voters through their fear.
Good job on this Phil. Too bad you couldn't vote!

ps. I hope that you are using spellcheck and such at least on your college papers.

I only wish I was old enough to vote.

Bush is trying to convert all Americans into Christians. Bush should NOT have won. I cried today when I heard that Kerry lost too.

very informative on your point of view and well written. Ive always wondered what It may be like to watch and know about the election but not having to live in the U.S. And a lot of the musicians side with kerry also because he was in a band called "The Electras" before he got into politics. So they can relate to part of his life I assume.
