Would everything change?

It was Monday 1st November 2004. Jenny was just 15 years old, with everything going for her. She was doing well in school, and enjoying life to the full.1

But today everything would change, all the plans she had made for her future would go up in smoke, today she found out she was pregnant.2

Jenny sat back in her chair, she couldn't believe her eyes, the clear blue tester she had bought 3 weeks ago when her period was late, was now showing positive. Tears pricked her eyes, how would she tell her dad what had happened, he would be furious, and he had every right to be, after all, she was still his little girl.3

She lay her head in her hands and thought back  to that night, her and her boyfriend Rick had gone to a friends birthday party, and someone had put vodka into the punch. Jenny had drank a little too much, and now was paying the price.4

She and Rick had been good friends since they were toddlers, and been seeing each other as boyfriend and girlfriend for a little over 2 years now. Jenny's dad loved Rick like his own son, and Rick adored Jenny's dad, but was all that about to change? she guessed it was.5

Taking out her mobile phone, she began to type out a text to Rick. 'We need to meet today, I have something to tell you. meet me in the park at 5pm love Jenny'6

she clicked send, and in a flash it was sent.7

Now she had to go and talk to her dad, she didn't want to hurt him, and she knew this would.8

Dan, Jenny's dad came home early from work, he greeted his daughter with a smile and hug, he sensed something was wrong, and looked at Jenny.9

"Dad, please come and sit down, I have something I need to tell you" she said, tears starting to prick her eyes.10

Dan walked over to the settee and sat by Jenny. 11

"Dad, I just don't know how to say this without it hurting you, so I am just gonna say it" Jenny paused for a second, looking into her fathers eyes.12

"Dad, I think I am pregnant, I have just done a test, and it is positive, I am so sorry, please believe me"13

Dan looked at her in disbelief for what seemed like minutes, but in fact it was only a couple of seconds, then he took his daughter into his arms, and they both cried together14

"It will be ok, don't worry, first of all we have to make an appointment with the Doctor, and make sure this test is correct" Dan said to her, still hugging her to his chest.15

After a little while, he stood up and said "Lets go get a drink of tea, and you can tell me how this happened"16

Jenny sat at the kitchen table, watching her Dad making the tea, she felt relieved that he hadn't blowen his top with her, but deep down, she knew he would be ok, and he would help her all he could.17

Jenny's mum had died in a car crash 4 years ago, Dan had never looked at another woman since her death, Jenny knew the story behind her parents meeting, it was so like hers and Ricks, childhood sweethearts.18

Dan sat down op posit Jenny, passing her her cup of tea, "Drink it while it's hot" he said with a smile.19

She picked up the cup with both hands, sipping the hot liquid.20

Then she began to tell her dad about the birthday party she and Rick had gone to, explaining about how someone had poured vodka into the punch, and how almost everyone had gotten a little drunk.21

"Rick and I left the party early, and went for a walk through the park, and it sort of just happened, one minute we were sat on a bench holding hands, talking, then the next we were making love"22

Jenny began to cry again, Dan got up from his chair and walked over to his little girl, he knelt down in front of her, and held her in his arms.23

"Jenny, have you told Rick about this test result yet?"24

Jenny shook her head, "No but I sent a text, asking him to meet me at 5, I told him we have to talk"25

Jenny got her coat and left to meet Rick, he was sat waiting for her when she came into the park, He stood up and walked towards her, taking her hand in his, he asked "Why ask to meet in the park, I could have come round to yours" He smiled, but Jenny began to cry26

"Jenny, what's wrong, is everything OK? is it Dan, has something happened?"27

Jenny shook her head "No Rick, my dad is fine, I have to show you something" she took out the pregnancy tester from her bag, and passed it to him.28

Rick was shocked, he looked at the tester, and then at Jenny29

"You mean you are pregnant? we are going to have a baby?"30

Jenny nodded, "I have told my dad, he has made an appointment for me to go to the Doctors tomorrow, so they will do a test too, but this one is a good one, and it says I am pregnant"31

Rick took her in his arms and hugged her32

"Oh Jenny, I am so sorry, it's my fault, I shouldn't have let things go so far"33

Jenny shook her head again "No Rick, we are both responsible, it takes two you know" and she gave a little smile34

"I guess we both have to go talk to your dad now" and they walked home to Jenny's house.35

Dan was sitting by the fire, a photo album on his knee, when he heard the door close, he looked up and smiled at his daughter and Rick.36

"Come on and sit by the fire, it's freezing outside"37

They all sat looking at old photos of Dan and Carol is wife, dating back to when they were just 2 young kids, and of Jenny as a baby.38

"Dad, could Rick come to the Doctors tomorrow"39

Dan smiled "yeah, I guess this involve him too" and he smiled.40

Jenny got the results of the pregnancy test at the Doctor's, it was positive, that was 5 years ago now, she and Rick are happily married, they got married on Jenny's 16th birthday. Dan? well he is so happy, he doesn't have just one grandchild, he has 2, a boy and a girl, Jon and Kerry.41

Jenny went on to finish school, she got all the results she needed to go to uni, now she is studying to be a teacher.42
