Rose Petals Ch. 8

Blood...there was blood everywhere, the crimson red liquid spilled out across the murky depth of blackness, that was Kurama's dream. She was here again, watching her dream play out again. She had been on a bed, and the blood from the birth of her kits stained the sheets around her and pooled onto the ground around her demons of every kind hungry for weak newborn kits, and she to weak to help them lay dying on the bed. 1

"No...this isn't happening...leave them alone!" She screamed summoning her rose whip and attacking the demons only to see her whip phase through them. 2

"No..." She said as tears welled up in her eyes as she watched the demons devour her kits as deep agonizing scream fell from her lips. 3

"Kurama...damnit fox wake up." Hiei said shaking her as Kurama tossed as Hiei tried to once again rouse her from her nightmare.4

"Someone...help please." Kurama cried out. 5

"Kurama." Hiei shouted.6

Kurama gasped as she opened her eyes sitting up as she looked around seeing she was back in her own room and brought her shaking hands to her head as she fisted them in her red hair shaking before a choked sob came from her mouth as she cried, something that seemed to become normal as of late. Why was she having those dreams? That frightening darkness, all that blood, and she to weak to defend her newborn kits from the voracious appetites of the demons that devoured them.  Was this dream...no, was this nightmare what was to come in the future for her and her kits? 7

"Gods help me." She said quietly as she felt strong arms wrap around her and the familiar warmth of being in the fire demon that she called lover's arms. 8

"I don't know about gods, but I'll protect you Kurama always." Hiei said holding her. 9

Kurama nodded some as she shook a little nodding looking down at her belly that seemed to grow more with each passing day. She brought a hand from her hair slowly to her belly feeling tiny little squirms of the babies all trying to press against her belly to be close to her hand. 10

"Mmm..." She said sadly laying on Hiei. 11

Hiei frowned some not liking to see Kurama in any kind of pain let alone one that made her scream like that. It reminded him of his mother's cry of agony when he was thrown off the Koormine island. He wouldn't let the same fate befall Kurama or his kits. He watched as Kurama rubbed a small spot on her stomach her other hand falling on the sheets beside her leg as her hair fell over her shoulders and small strands fell in front of her face. 12

He hadn't noticed it before but now that they were like this, he realized how tired Kurama had looked, chances were it was from the lack of sleep and all those nights she spent crying because of her nightmare. She was almost afraid to sleep now because of them. So Hiei often stayed by her side at night until she fell asleep and then would head to take care of his duties as watcher between The Makai and Nigenkai to make sure no humans nor demons slipped past the barrier. He would return not but a few hours later to find Kurama often screaming,or crying from the nightmare.13

He saw her hand shift to the middle of her belly, probably to give the other two kits some attention as Hiei held her in his arms letting her calm down, not making a sound, just enjoying the quietness of being with her. 14

"I'm alright now Hiei...thank you, I'm going to rest for a bit longer then I'll get up." She said as Hiei nodded letting her lay back down and sleep. 15

Later in the day Kurama sat on the couch watching the news as she brushed her hair and tied it back letting it hang over her shoulder. She sighed some and flipped the channel to a talk show and watched for a while before she became bored and turned the TV off and sighed leaning down folding her arms on the arm rest laying her chin on her arms. 16

She hated not being able to do things she normally would, Yuuske wanted to have a guys day out and had even invited her telling her that they all knew she was male before hand and said come join them. Kurama politely declined having a feeling that what the guys were doing was going to put her babies in danger, so she sent Hiei with them, as Hiei so bluntly put it to babysit the two dimwits. While she was home she busied herself with cleaning the whole entire house and sat down to watch TV. Taking a nap was out of the question, with her nightmares plaguing her, so now she was bored with nothing to do.17

"What do you want Koenma?" Kurama asked looking over seeing the teenage ruler. 18

"How did you know I was here?" He asked blinking.19

"Just because I'm in my human form doesn't mean I don't have my fox hearing...what do you want?" She asked again sighing 20

"Thought you wanted some company. May I?" He asked reaching to feel her belly.21

Kurama frowned taking a hold of Koenma's hand and pushed him back. "Don't touch me." She said throwing him a glare as she got comfortable again. 22

"My aren't we moody." He said. 23

"If you have no business here go away, your bothering me and my kits." she said rolling over her back towards him.24

"Do you know what they are yet?" He asked trying to make small conversation with her, since she seemed to be in an irritable mood.25

Kurama thought for a while as she shifted a bit. Yeah she knew what they were, two boys, and two girls. A perfect set of quads in her opinion. two identical little girls and hopefully identical boys. At least she hoped it would be that way. But should she tell the brat ruler?26

"Just...go, I'm not in the mood for company." She said.27

"Alright, just thought I'd come by to see how you were." He said and disappeared.28

"Baka...." Kurama said softly as she curled up deciding to have a small nap.29

She would up a few hours later rolling over seeing Hiei sitting in the recliner as usual his feet on the table sound asleep. She gave a small smile and slowly stood feeling one of the babies against her stomach as she smiled and got a blanket putting it around Hiei as she leaned up wincing some at the sudden pain in her back as she sat back down on the couch rubbing her stomach. 30

The next day would would turn out to be fairly cold so Kurama Yuuske and Kuwabara of course wore jackets to once again help with the winter festival. Today they were setting up the stage for the play that was to be performed which posed a bit of a problem for Kurama, Yuuske being the nice guy tried to see to it that Kurama wouldn't be part of any of the lifting, but sadly not even Yuuske could get Kurama out of it. When he told Kurama the bad news Kurama frowned some and nodded.31

"Its alright Yuuske, I suppose I'd be lifting some heavy things eventually...I just hope they'll be alright." Kurama said sticking a hand in her pocket careful not to bump the watch against anything as she felt her belly through the fabric of the coat. 32

"You sure?" He asked a concerned look on his face noticing Kurama spacing out. 33

"Hey." He said as Kurama looked up. 34

"Sorry...i've been doing that a lot lately. Yeah its fine." She said nodding.35

Yuuske frowned some and looked around placing a hand against Kurama's stomach. She still wasn't that big yet, but he could feel where the bump of the babies was. Though he would never admit it thank gods for Rekai items like that little image watch, or else Kurama would have had a hell of a time explaining how he became female and pregnant at the same time. He moved his hand a while later as him and Kurama stood for a while silently talking to each other through their gestures and looks. 36

"Hey there everyone." Botan said cheerfully as Yuuske jumped falling back on his butt as Kurama took the graceful approach and stepped back. 37

"Sorry did I scare you?" She asked. 38

"Nooo there's a reason why I'm on the fucking floor with a sore ass...no shit you scared us, don't do that." He said.39

"Yuuske language." Kurama reminded him and helped him up as she winced quickly hiding it with a small smile. 40

"Come on let's go." Kurama said walking off as Yuuske grabbed her wrist. 41

"If you start getting dizzy or anything let me know ok?" He said letting her go as Kurama gave a gesture and smiled going to help the other guys. 42

Within a few hours the stage was beginning to come to life as Kurama helped pull ropes to raise the light fixtures as a sudden dizzy spell came over her and she blinked some shaking it off as she went back to work. Once the fixtures had been in place and the ropes tied off Kurama walked over to help some of the others feeling dizzy again. 43

"Damnit not again..." She swore bringing a hand to her head taking a few deep breaths. 44

A cry would come later as the moaning of metal sounded and panic came across the stage, one of the light fixtures had come loose and fell from its beam about to land where Kurama was standing. 45

"Hey watch out!" Kuwabara called.46

"Nnn.." Kurama said looking up and gasped as Yuuske pushed her out the way and the two landed on the stage floor as they slid across it Kurama biting back a painful moan from the sudden sharpness in pain that stemmed in her shoulder. 47

Yuuske looked down checking Kurama and frowned seeing her shoulder was bleeding. 48

"Kurama." He said worried looking at her seeing she wasn't moving. 49

"Hey." He said shaking her a bit. 50

"Hey someone call a doctor or something!" Kuwabara said running over.51

"Come on Kurama wake up." Yuuske said lightly shaking her seeing she wasn't responding to his calls. 52

"Nnn..." Kurama moaned a while later as she began to come around seeing Yuuske and others around her. "What happened?" She asked sitting up.53

"One of the lights fell and Urameshi saved you from being squashed flat." Kuwabara said. 54

"Nnn..."Kurama said frightened for her kits. Were they ok? Did they get hurt? Damn these humans for crowding around her like that as she winced feeling Kuwabara's hand on her shoulder as she pushed his hand off. 55

"Don't touch me. Yuuske help me up.." She said calmly. 56

"Not with that wound just stay still a while, the doctor will be here soon." He said. 57

"No!...no doctors...just get me off this stage." She said needing to check on her kits. 58

Yuuske frowned some after a while deciding to go against his better judgment and helped Kurama up taking her off the stage and to a nearby bench sitting under a tree. Not that he hated it when Kurama decided to be hard headed like this, it was nice to see her show some backbone ut with her injured like that it was a pain in the ass when he knew she should've stayed still on that stage and let the doctors take care of her.59

"What's got you so frightened anyway?" He asked helping her take her coat off.60

Kurama ignored him as she brought a hand to her stomach concentrating trying to feel for her kits energy signatures. What had that fall done to them? Her shoulder she would worry about later, right now the tiny lives in her belly were more of a concern. 61

Kuwabara came over a while later watching as he frowned as Kurama opened her eyes. 62

"I can't sense them...I can't even feel them..." She said panicking a bit. 63

"Here let me." Kuwabara said concentrating as he placed his hands against Kurama's stomach. 64

"Can you sense them?" She asked worried. 65

"Yeah....their energy is a bit shaky probably from that ride you guys had, they seem fine though." Kuwabara said seeing a relieved smiled come over Kurama's face. 66

"Thank gods....nnn..." Kurama said standing as she moaned falling against Yuuske. 67

"Kurama..." He said holding onto her. 68

"Its alright, she just fainted." Kuwabara said watching Yuuske pick her up and take her to the ambulance as she was driven to the hospital.69
