In The Beginning

A long while back, Mavros and Nekro were best of friends. However, that would all soon change. What Mavros and Nekro did not realize was there fathers were working for two different opposing undercover military organizations. Those two organizations were United States Lethal Weapons Agency (LWA) and United States Counterstrike Offensive (CO). Mavros’ father, Hades (Codename: Sentinel), worked for the LWA organization while Nekro’s father, Partol (Codename: Dark Fire) worked for the CO organization. Neither Mavros nor Nekro knew that one day they would have to kill each other.1

And so our story continues. A few years later, on a darkened night, Mavros’ father never returned home. He figured it was due to his overly worked schedule down at the local factory. Little did Mavros know that his father was really an undercover agent. His mother was the only one in the family that knew of his secret life. Mavros went off to bed while his mother remained awake by the couch in front of the window. She had a look of worry in her eyes. Her face’s expression only reinforced what her eyes were saying. She knew that something had gone wrong in his last mission.2

Sentinel’s last mission was to infiltrate the CO organization and discover what their plans were in regard to the upcoming visit from the foreign Prime Minister of Nadine. If you haven’t already figured out, the CO organization is an evil organization composed of mercenaries and deviant top secret agents. The top agent in the field was Dark Fire. Dark Fire had discovered Sentinel and ordered for him to be killed on sight. However, it wasn’t going to be as easy as turning off a light switch. Sentinel had been trained in every form of combat from volatile weapons, sniper rifles, shotguns, small arms such as pistols, and every form of hand to hand combat known to man.3

As Sentinel made a dash for the garage door of an old burnt down millhouse, he was headed off by none other than Dark Fire himself. Dark Fire too was trained in all of the arts that Sentinel had been trained in. You see, Dark Fire used to belong to the LWA organization. Three years ago he broke off and formed his own organization the Counterstrike Offensive. Sentinel’s earlier mission had been to locate and terminate Dark Fire. He had now located him, however, terminating him would be a whole other story. He didn’t have the power that Dark Fire wielded.4

Sentinel stared at the sword, still sheathed, in Dark Fire’s left hand. MEDUSA, he thought to himself. “Ah yes, I see you remember my sword Medusa. Isn’t she a beauty? They say she got her name from the ancient Greek mythological gorgon named Medusa. It was rumored that if you were to gaze your unfortunate eyes upon Medusa then you would turn to stone. The same can be said about this sword. From the moment you lay eyes on it there is something about this sword that is unable to let you move. Its as though the sword is Medusa herself and you are turned to stone. Hence the reasoning and logic behind the name.” Dark Fire explained.5

By now Sentinel had stopped hearing Dark Fire’s words and concentrated on the sword in disbelief that he was able to find and wield one of the most legendary swords in the world. There are only three legendary swords in the world. Only one of them will not come into play. Medusa, Psychi, and Kushka. If you haven’t already figured out by the first chapter, Kushka is the sword that will not make an appearance in this particular piece of literature. “It seems you are already lost in Medusa’s world.” Dark Fire spoke softly. “It’s a pity I have to finish you off like this. You were hardly a challenge to me.” at these words Dark Fire shook his head.6

Dark Fire began to unsheathe Medusa. As he did, Sentinel was able to unhook his eyes from the sword long enough to take Dark Fire by surprise. He sprung from the floor and speared Dark Fire to the cold hard concrete. Medusa was never finished being unsheathed and flew out of Dark Fire’s hand and slid across the floor and stopped underneath a parked forklift. As Dark Fire lay on the ground blood began to spurt from the corners of his mouth. Sentinel had speared him so hard into the ground that it broke one of Dark Fire’s ribs and sent it to his heart. Short of breath, Dark Fire gave one last order into his headset, “Grab Medusa and flee. Give Medusa to my son. Instruct him in our ways. Teach him to kill. Teach him- there was a slight pause as he gasped for breath- to die.”7

Sentinel stood up and looked around fearfully. He was in the middle of enemy territory and had just killed their leader. He spoke into his headset, “Mission objective two of mission number 438 dash C: terminate Dark Fire complete.” As those words were being sent to his headquarters a sniper on the roof set up for a tranquilizer shot. He had Sentinel in his crosshairs and pulled the trigger. The dart landed in Sentinel’s hip. Instantly the poison went to work and knocked Sentinel out cold.8

Other troops arrived and carried Sentinel to confinement. He would be kept there until the troops found a new leader and the leader decided what to do with him. Everyone thought it would be fair to kill him then and there but they couldn’t. Dark Fire had written a will that nobody knew about. In it he stated, “If you are reading this then I have served my purpose for our organization and the time has come for a new leader. I am insisting my son, Nekro, be raised in our ways. Teach him what I have taught you; our enemies, our allies, who we are, what we stand for, what our goals are, and instruct him in every form of combat I taught all of you. When he is ready, give him Medusa. Tell him I’m sorry I couldn’t be there to help him learn how to wield it. And tell him I’m sorry I couldn’t be there to teach him our ways. As for the rest of you, disperse for now until the time is right and Nekro is ready to take the responsibility of leader. It should only take three of you to teach Nekro everything. So the rest of you disperse and we will call when the time is right. If you manage to catch Sentinel in any of his future operations leave him to Nekro. I believe when the time is right he will make the right decision on what to do. However, if you capture him, keep him locked up somewhere safe where he wont be able to escape. And as for me, well, so long, farewell, see you all in Hell.”9

The troops all agreed on three men to train and teach Nekro as Dark Fire had instructed. They also kept five men at the millhouse to keep a look out for Sentinel and make sure he couldn’t escape. They would all switch shifts and work with at least two men on post at one time for about eight hours. As for the rest of the troops, they immediately bought plane tickets, rented hotel rooms, and even took ships to other countries. They weren’t going to take any chances.10

In the meantime, Mavros’ mother, Alaura, began to worry and called headquarters to speak with Sentinel’s commanding officer, Rick (Codename: Pyrock). As the phone rang Alaura’s heart sank deeper and deeper. Finally somebody answered the phone, “Hello?” the voice trembled. Not many people call this number so they worry somebody has discovered them when their phone rings. “This is Alaura, Sentinel’s wife, is Sentinel all right? I haven’t seen him and he was supposed to be home tonight.” Alaura said in tears. “Hold on just one moment ma’am, I’ll go track down Pyrock for you.” Before Alaura could say anything else she was put on hold.11

A few moments later a broad, strong voice answered the phone “Hello, this is General Pyrock. What can I do for you?” Alaura repeated her question, “Is Sentinel all right? He isn’t home yet.” Pyrock hesitated a moment and then answered, “He is just fine. His current mission is just taking longer than expected. He should be back by tomorrow afternoon.” With those words Alaura felt some relief. “Thank you general.” she responded.12

As she hung up the phone she knew he was full of shit. Something had gone wrong and she knew it. She never knew what Sentinel’s missions were, but she knew that whenever he said he’d be home by a certain time he was always home by that certain time. It was unlike him to be home late. She couldn’t do anything else so she went to bed. All she could think about was, “How am I going to explain this to Mavros?”13
