Zach stood at the bus stop for an hour waiting for the bus that would be taking him off to California to train for the war he never wanted to fight in. His father had pushed him into signing up, and now here he was, sitting on a bench in his uniform waiting to be shipped off to Huwaii. He would give anything to go back and take his name off of that document, but it was too late now. He was going.1
He still had a couple of hours to go so he walked into the caffee that was close by and sat down in a booth, his thoughts swimming in his mind. Was he really doing this? Was he really about to get on a plain to California for about a week2

I was listening to "Traveling Soldier" by the Dixie chicks and I thought it would make an excelent story. This is part one of possibly three or more.
