I'm Not Okay-Chapter Three

Chapter Three1

Sydney finally fell asleep around two in the morning. Once she was asleep her dreams were filled with thoughts of Trevor. And to make matters worse she woke to find Trevor sitting on the end of her bed patting her leg. 2

“Come on Sleeping Beauty. Time to wake up. Karmen’s gonna flip if you don’t get up, shower, and come down for breakfast.” Trevor said smiling.3

“You know I like waking up like this; it’s better than Karmen screaming at me to wake up.” Sydney replied smiling back.4

“I bet. But you better get a move on. Karmen needs you to come relieve her of the kitchen duties once you’ve finished.” 5

“Oh goodie.” Sydney said sarcastically.6

“Don’t sound so thrilled.” Trevor said winking and with that he left her alone in her room.7

Sydney started to get up from her bed and head towards the bathroom. But she stopped at her mirror first. Standing there she told herself that she was not falling for Trevor, no way, no how was she falling for Trevor. Twenty minutes later she was downstairs relieving Karmen of the kitchen and its inhabitants. Trevor and Chad were sitting at the table in the kitchen sipping their coffee and eating their breakfast talking about nothing in particular. The two of them finished about five minutes later and went to the living room, leaving Sydney alone in the kitchen.8

Sydney quickly did the dishes, grabbed a bagel and headed upstairs to talk to Karmen. Karmen was still in the shower so Sydney knocked and then went in asking, “Hey Karm, can I talk to you?”9

“Yeah, sure Syd.” came Karmen’s voice from the other side of the shower curtain. “What’s up?”10

“Well, lately I’ve been having these thoughts about someone, I don’t know maybe I’m just worrying for nothing but… I don’t know.” Sydney said sighing.11

“Syd, is everything alright? Who are these thoughts about Syd?”12

“That’s the problem, who they’re about.”13

“Oh, well just tell me who they’re about. I’m sure its not as bad as you think.”14

“Fine, I’ve been having thoughts about Trev, and they’re not just ‘oh he is cute’. It’s like I’m starting to fall for Trev, and I don’t think I’m going land on my feet.”15

“Syd, that’s so cute! But that’s not what you want to hear right now, is it?” Karmen said apologetically. “Look there’s nothing wrong with falling for Trev. He’s a great guy and you’re already really close to him. So just wait and see what happens.” 16

“Yeah but what if being so close to him already causes a big bang as far as a landing goes?”17

“It’ll be fine Syd. I promise. Now can you hand me my towel?” Karmen said turning off the shower. 18

“I guess, you’re right. But if whatever happens turns out badly I’m coming after you with an ax.” Sydney said handing Karmen her towel. 19

“Well that’s pleasant!” Karmen said sarcastically stepping out of the shower. “But seriously it will all be fine, now I’m going to go finish getting ready. So can you go make sure Trev and Chad are ready?”20

“Yes, your majesty!” Sydney said smiling and walking out of the bathroom. 21

About five minutes after Sydney left the bathroom, Karmen screamed for her to come up to her room. Sydney obeyed and coming thinking that Karmen lost her shoe or something, but what came next was something that no one would have expected.22

“I’m coming in Karm. Now what’s all the screaming about?” Sydney asked, sitting down on Karmen’s bed.23

“Syd, you might want to sit down for this.”24

“Hey, moron, I am sitting down.” Sydney said with a roll of her eyes. “I don’t see how you are taking harder classes than all of us. I mean come on you are so blonde at times. Now what did you yell for?”25

“Well if you’d shut up and stop lecturing me for a minute I might just tell you.” Karmen said with a smirk.26

“Fine!” Sydney replied.27

“Ok, well, you know how the band sent in a demo, actually quite a few demos, to Reprise records?”28

“Yeah, why?”29

“Well I got a phone call as I walked into my room. It was our ‘manager’.”30

“Karm, have you lost your mind? We don’t have a manager.” 31

“That’s the point. We have been asked if we will sign to Reprise records. They have already assigned us a manager. All we need to do is ok the agency’s officials to fly out here so we can sign the papers, and clarify some things.”32

“What the? Are you kidding? Please tell me you’re not kidding.”33

“Would I kid around about something like this?”34

“I hope to hell you wouldn’t! This is freaking awesome! We got a record deal…holy crap!”35

Obviously you haven’t told the other two…but how are we going to?” Sydney asked, after she got over the initial shock, although the shock was still very much there. 36

“I don’t know. I mean I am half dressed. But who gives a crap. Let’s go tell ‘em. Where are they?” Karmen said heading for the door.37

“Living room.”38

“Okay. This is so freaking unreal.”39

Karmen and Sydney ran down the stairs as fast as they could without killing themselves. And as they rounded the corner to the living room they were greeted by sarcastic remarks.40

“Oh look the herd of elephants has graced us with their presence.” Chad said smiling and looking over to where Karmen and Sydney appeared. “Why in hell are you only half dressed?”41

“Yeah, why are you only have dressed?” Trevor said, almost as an echo.42

“We need to talk, all of us.” Karmen said.43

“Ok, is everything alright?” Trevor asked, scooting to the edge of his seat.44

“Everything is better than ok. Everything is freaking fabtabulous!” Karmen said winking and grinning from ear to ear. She came in and sat down on the floor next to Chad.45

“Why are you all grins and giggles?” Chad asked sarcastically.46

“Give me a minute and I’ll tell ya.” Karmen replied.47

“Just tell them Karm!” Sydney said from beside Karmen.48

“Ok, well you guys remember when we sent in those demos to Reprise records right?” Karmen asked, and once Chad and Trevor nodded their agreement she continued. “Well as I walked into my room this morning after getting out of the shower, my phone was ringing. I answered it and it was our ‘manager’ and he ”49

“Karm, we don’t have a manager.” Trevor said.50

“Trev, just let her finish.” Sydney said coming over and sitting next to him on the couch.51

“Anyway, our manager said we have a record deal. All we have to do is ok the agency‘s officials to fly so we can sign some papers, and straighten some things out. Reprise has already paid a manager for us, he is ours until we find someone we would rather have or we can keep him.” Karmen said. 52

Once she had finished all of them sat there looking at each other, no one moving. Finally Karmen asked what everybody thought.53

“It’s… it’s amazing.” Trevor replied.54

“Yeah it really is.” Sydney said nodding her agreement.55

“Chad?” Karmen asked looking at Chad who was sitting next to her on the floor.56

“Are you serious?” was all he said.57

“Yes, Chad darling. I’m serious we have a record deal!.” Karmen said reaching over and hugging him.58

Then she stood up and brought Chad with her. And as if Karmen had said it a loud Sydney and Trevor stood up as well. The four of them stood there in the middle of the living room hugging each other for over ten minutes. Then finally they separated into separate hugs. Trevor hugged Karmen, while Chad hugged Sydney. Then all four switched and Sydney was hugging Karmen, Chad was with Trevor. Finally they switched again and Chad was hugging Karmen, and Trevor and Sydney were embracing. 59

The last switch lasted longer than all the others. Trevor and Sydney left the room and said they were going to call their parents. Which left Karmen and Chad to sit in the living room alone, still hugging each other. 60

Chad finally pulled back a little, as he did so he lifted Karmen’s chin up from its resting position on his shoulder. When they were both staring into each others eyes, he leaned down and kissed her. 61

The kiss lasted for a long while. And when they both pulled away, Karmen was out of breathe. 62

“Karmen, I’m sorry. I guess I’ve been holding that back for a while.”63

“Why are you apologizing? I’ve wanted you to do that for what seems like forever now.”64

“Really, why didn’t you say something?”65

“Umm…well let’s see I know I’m blunt but I think that might be more blunt than I normally am.”66

“Hey love birds…we have to get to class.” Sydney said with a smile.67
