I'm Not Okay-Chapter One

Chapter One 1

Karmen woke to the sound of "The Ghost of You" blaring from her alarm clock.2

"What a wonderful way to wake up." she said only partially sarcastic. Karmen loved waking up to her favorite music but she didn't want to start her day. 3

It was the first day of her last semester of school. She was a senior in college and like most of her classmates she had dreams; dreams that seemed way out of reach. But at least she wouldn't be going at those dreams alone. She had three close friends that were trying to accomplish the same goal. And one of them was her best friend.4

"Syd, it's time to get up. We have music theory in an hour and we don't want to be late, Mr. Johnson won't like it." Karmen said screaming down the hall to her roommate and best friend.5

Karmen had known Sydney since high school. They had gone to middle school together but had never met. In their freshmen year in high school they had Algebra together and immediately became close friends. By the middle of their sophomore year they were best friends and were already making plans to go to the same college and live with each other.6

Now that they were seniors in college and were preparing to graduate and move on in their careers they knew that it wasn't going to be easy. They had adjusted to the college life and within a matter of one semester they were going to have adjust to the after college life. 7

Sydney was going to graduate with a double major of literature and law, while having a minor in music. Karmen was graduating with almost the exact same thing. She was pursuing a double major in literature and psychology, with a minor in music. Both girls had published more than two books and had been in a band together for over 4 years. 8

Sydney played the guitar and sang, and Karmen played the drums. Even though they had already published books, and were both on their way to becoming promising lawyers or psychologists, they still had the dream of making it big in the music industry. In high school Karmen and Sydney had vowed they would make it one day. They tried starting bands with their friends but no one would ever stay 9

committed. 10

Their luck changed when they met Chad and Trevor. They too had the dream of making it big. The four of them began talking and formed Silver Kiss about four11

and a half years ago. Chad and Trevor were graduating with Sydney and Karmen. Chad, like Sydney and Karmen, was graduating with a double major in art, literature with a minor music. Trevor was graduating with a major in literature and a minor in music. 12

All four of them lived in and rented a house 5 minutes from campus. They planned to stay their until they graduated and then move to California. 13

A knock at her bedroom door startled Karmen from her thoughts. Before she could open it she heard Sydney talking from the other side.14

"Karmen, what did you say about music theory?" 15

"We have it this morning, in like 45 minutes. Don't you remember?" Karmen asked opening the door.16

"Crap, I forgot. I was hoping for another hour of sleep this semester."17

"Yea well it doesn't look like we are going to get it. Do you know if Chad and Trevor are up yet?"18

"No, I'm still half asleep."19

"Ok, get in the shower, I'll go wake them and make breakfast. Then I'll shower. Ok?"20

"Alright, God I hate school." Sydney said as she walked off towards the bathroom. 21

Karmen ran down the stairs and headed towards Chad's room. She knocked and opened the door without waiting for a response. 22

"Chad, get up. We have class in like 40 minutes."23

"Wh-what?" Chad asked rubbing his eyes.24

"Music theory, in 40 minutes. Go shower and breakfast will be ready when you are done."25

"What time is it?"26

"7:20-ish. Now hurry up so we won't be late."27

"Ugh."28

Next Karmen headed towards Trevor's room. She went through the same thing with Trevor as she did with Chad and Sydney.29

After everybody was woken up and downstairs in the kitchen, Karmen served breakfast. Karmen ate as fast as she could, then ran upstairs to shower. When she was done she blow dried her colorful and long hair and pulled it into a ponytail. She then quickly and heavily put on her eyeliner. By then they had 10 minutes to get to class.30

"Karmen, you ready?" came Sydney's voice from the bottom of the stairs. 31

"Yeah, I'm just grabbing my bag."32

"Ok, we'll be in Chad's car." 33

"Okie dokie, I'm on my way down." Karmen said running down the stairs. Everyone was convened near the front door.34

"Don't you miss this?" Chad asked sarcastically as he grabbed his keys.35

"Oh yeah." Karmen replied.36

Once everyone was piled in the car, Chad start the ignition and headed for the campus. 37
