Digging the depths of life,
my curious mind the shovel,
but the hole proves never ending.
I scream from the void,
standing on the infinite flecks of dust,
that preserve the answers to the universe.
I should never have scratched the surface.2
** 3
The meaning of life is enough to drive the most rational and intelligent insane, exposing their limited abilities to understand the universal box that contains them. Of course, there are those who leave our human existence in the hand of God, and it is generally those people who live a more fulfilled life as they stay true to their believes of faith. With everything explained through creation, life becomes a less feared and purposeful venture. But where does this leave those who don't accept the unknown without some rational and factual premise? Are over-rationalizers doomed to sink in their own despair, craving to touch something as powerful as the meaning of life, our own elusive almighty. Will it always slither away every time we attempt to embrace its infinite wisdom?4
Naturally, some will say the meaning of life is to procreate, but the question I am referring to is for what purpose? Why did this vexing cycle of life come to be, and from where? In fact, why did the universe come to be in the first place, and what was there before the big bang? Are there an infinite amount of universes, or just this one?5
As you can tell, the more we dwell on such an overwhelming topics, the more questions that arise. In our current human evolution, these questions are far to complex for our mushy brain. So how do we live our life happily without understanding why we are here to begin with?6
If you are the type to be consumed by these thoughts rather than embracing your quest for knowledge, then the simplest thing to do is to ignore them. That's right, if you want serenity and piece of mind, the only thing you can do is withdrawal yourself entirely from the big picture and create the funnest reality for yourself that you can. Live on your impulses, not on questions that will only send you into a downward spiral of negativity from their lack of resolution. Do things that will make you feel positive inside, and never act like a wuss. Hold your head up high, accept yourself the way you are, keep yourself busy as much as you can so you don't have time to ponder the universe alone in your room as depression rains on you. 7
Finding your happy place in a self-defined reality might be difficult for some in the beginning, so surround yourself with positive people and think positive thoughts as often as you can. By always talking confidently to yourself, this will in turn create an explosion of greatness that will empower your entire body. Also, never let another person bring you down from your pedestal, because unless you choose to agree with what they say, there is nothing anybody can say to you that can bring you down.8
This way of thinking also applies to all the other major problems in this world that are out of your control. Forget them all and instead work on what you can control, such as your self esteem. This doesn't mean you should forget about poverty and things of that nature, it just means that if poverty bothers you, go out and do something about it. Sponsor a kid, do whatever it takes, but make sure your all-action and not self-pity. Worrying about things from your computer chair without any form of action won't get anybody anywhere, and instead encourages that negative spiral I described earlier.9
It all starts by accepting the meaning of life as something you will never understand in your life time, and instead making the most of the short time you have in the infinite spectrum of time. After all, ignorance is truly bliss, and it can be upheld by even the most rational and digging minds who turn a blind eye to it.
Author notes
"Don't be a weak willed wussy."

I personally recommend lifting weights three times a week for twenty minutes. You would be surprised how well this can turn a negative person into a confident machine in a short time. If you don't like that, do some form of exercise. It really gets the positive kickassness in you going. Yes, I have chosen to use kickassness as a word.

Chuckles, wusses & wimps,,,
Let us be honest here, 'wuss' means, 'puss' equals pussy, equals femininity, and a passive view of life, which is pretty much the content of your somewhat egotistic rant.
May I send you off in the direction of a female who is by no means passive or wussified in her thinking...
Ayn Rand...not necessarily her fiction, but her philosophy and specifically, "An Introduction to the Epistemology of Objectivism"
The defining characteristic of the human mind, which places it above and beyond the animal world, is that of rationality and, again by definition, 'curiosity', one must seek to know.
You got a few things right of course, but not the most important part. Without using that shovel of rational thought to uncover the science of existence, you wouldn't even be able to mention a 'big bang theory', since no one, had they followed your wussified advice you offered, would have cared to pursue the knowledge of the known universe.
There, a little better than the one word comment you left?
Amicus...

Wuss does not equal femininity, that is the most terrible logic I have ever heard in my entire life. Wuss symbolizes one who doesn't have the strength to stand up for themselves, male or female.
After that ridiculous equality "wuss = puss = femininity", you make a good point on the curiosity of the human mind and what it has and can achieve, but you obviously missed the central theme of this piece in your clear bitterness. This is aimed at those over-rationalizing people (such as how I was) who sit at home NOT taking action in a depressed state pondering questions on life they can not comprehend, when instead they can go out there and take action. You can't solve unknown questions on the universe whining from your computer chair, can you? Maybe for one person, uncovering the mystery of the early universe as an astronomer would give them purpose, maybe another cannot handle the thought of not knowing the answer to everything and would instead be happier doing something simpler that is fun for them.
This is by no means an egotistical rant, but based on my own personal experience. I find that the more I dwelled on overwhelming topics like the meaning of life, the more it consumed my thoughts. I became negative a lot, and negativity is spreading on the body.
So instead, I discovered I should just have fun with life and not let such topics define my existence.
If this piece helps one or two people who were like me become positive, then that's great. If you don't agree with everything I said, that's fine too. I only had a problem with your intro, because that was completely false.
Thank you for expressing your opinion

Yay! Something that makes sense! This is really good.
The last story on here I read made no sense. This was a major relief.

Interesting perspective...
Extremely well argued.
Yrs.

Wow, this encompasses everything that I have been thinking for years. I do not entirely agree with your resolution of blissful ignorance because I find that while my continual quest for meaning does drag me down, it also helps me justify my life. Very articulately written and extremely well thought out. You have a rare brain, thank you for sharing it with the world.

Oh yes, I have read this story before, and commented on it.
But again, I enjoyed reading this. It was nicely laid out, had a good point of view, and definatly made me think. Good job!

Wow, this was great. I agreed with so much of it. It's so true because people are always worrying and wondering what they should be or could be doing. When, they should be out doing it. Thank you for entering the contest. Good luck. =)

This is very true! If the human race keeps continuing to spiral down into craziness about how or why we are here in the first place, life will mean nothing. We should really enjoy the short amount of time we have here.
But great point of view, I enjoyed this!

Thanks for a unique entry
I had anticipated stories and got a testimonial. A good way to put it out there for others. Liked the line: "...unless you choose to agree with what they say, there is nothing anybody can say that can bring you down."
Is the verse at the opening your composition or from another source?

-
Yea, I figured you might reject it because it wasn't a true story, but I thought it was relevant enough to at least enter it and see what you thought.
The opening poem is my composition.
Thanks for the read

Interesting and well formed thoughts,
while I don't necessarily agree with some of your statements, I am pleased that you have voiced them. I enjoyed reading it, and it flowed well. I think you could expand this into an essay.
You have a couple of typos tucked away, but you'll find them eventually.
Sorry, I'm not lifting weights, I'm a little old lady and if I do weight lifting my lovely Bob will get me chopping the wood!
Thanks for writing this, you didn't waste your time.

Very interesting.
I did enjoy the pace and the to the point nature of the piece.
Your use of short choppy / punchy questions is excellent.
All the best.

Somthing to think about
I understand the feeling of the frustration that comes with not knowing the true meaning of life. Just surrounding yourself with positive reinforcement is just a way to make things feel a little better, and accept the way things are. All this is is another point of view that can be considered.

Ok, sorry to sound rude here. You obviously believe in what you write in this, and mean well.
However, I'm tempted to ask: Where the hell do you get off, preaching your own personal Ultimate Truth like that?
Sorry, I just respond badly to people claiming they know how I should live my life.
Perhaps I could suggest you tone it down a wee bit, so as to phrase it as suggestion and advice, not an imperious edict of supreme universal authority? -
-
lol!
Seeing as this is my piece, I can write what I want to write. It is you who is responding to my opinion on my page, and you are obviously an incredibly insecure person if you feel this was in any shape or form a personal attack on yours or anybody else's beliefs. I could care less how you choose to live your own life, this was written for those who can take something positive out of my own personal experience.
I suggest you tone down your immaturity and stop worrying how other people perceive the world.

Cool.
I totally agree with Andrew. I'm a Christian too, and I kind of flinch when confronted with evidence that God "might not" exist, but I have nothing against other religions. This is a great lesson.. Rewarded 4

A Good Lesson.
Now, I am one of those who "leave our human existence in the hand of God," but I could relate to this anyways. And, what you're doing, is basicly what I'm doing as a believer.
This is a very good entry for my contest. Thank you for entering it. (Have I seen the poem before?
)
On a quick note, "all action" and "self pity" should both be hyphenated.
