Red Mistress (Ch. 1)

It all started when she was little. The death of her best friend started the long line of tragedy’s that was to come to the young girl’s life. The long line of tragedy’s lead to years of hatred, years of revenge. And yet, somewhere, deep inside the young woman, was the morals she was raised to bring up in her children, and have her children bring up in her grand-children and so forth, and she knew this, but the long line of tragedy in her past, made her bitter towards the world. She wasn’t greedy, oh no, she had no reason to be greedy. However, she was skilled in killing those… who ‘needed to be killed’. An assassin, you should call her. An assassin with a heavy bounty on her head, which made her smile, because she knew that no one could catch her , and every one else knew that too, and one related to the queen of vampires, and who carries the name of her aunt, Queen Lilith. Of course, she didn’t accept the title, she was nothing but royalty in most opinions, but she was named ‘Lilith’, except with two l’s, which does cause some confusion among the land of Chars. It all started with the death of an innocent child, named Layla, Lillith’s best friend in her younger years, when she was sweet, caring, and kind. Lillith was the least likely person to fall in love, or so you’d think. Most would wonder how somebody so beautiful could be so cruel and merciless.  Lillith had her reasons; she wanted revenge. She wanted to get a hold of the person that started her cruel life. Arthras was his name. She had defeated him before,  thus she became queen of the crystal knights, or the so-called ‘Co-leader’, which was quite absurd to the land of Chars. Lillith found it made quite a bit of sense, seeing as she was not going to get married to some man named ‘Death’. The land of Chars, however, found that Death would have suited her well, as he was just as twisted, just as merciless. There was one flaw, however. Lillith, had a heart. It was mistaken to be out of ice, but no, she was misunderstood. As were all the vampires on the land of Chars. She was feared, and she knew it. She pretended to like it, consequently, deep in side, she hated herself, she abhorred everything she had done…1

Two little girls, both in matching yellow dresses were spinning in a grand parlor that seemed to shin like gold, giggling. One girl, had straight black hair that reached her waist. A crown of white daisies topped her head. The other had curly black hair, and a crown of pink daisies  encircling the girl’s head. They both fell to the marble floors and lied down on the white marble floors, poking each other’s side. Suddenly, the girl with the straight hair jumped up, the crown falling from her head.2

“Lillith and Layla! Get off that floor, now!” A woman’s voice called. Layla gasped in surprise as she did the same, maintaining the crown on her head, unlike Lillith. Soon, a woman with blonde hair emerged from the shadows, her skin white compared to the tan walls. 3

Lillith grinned innocently and ran towards her mother, hugging her tightly, “Mommy!” She looked up, her sea-green eyes glittering in the light like diamonds in the rough. 4

Her mother grinned, “What have I told you about laying on the floor?”5

“Uh..” Layla jumped next to Lillith’s side, “Never to lay on it because our dresses might get dirty.” She giggled childishly.6

“Exactly. Now run along to the gardens…” She turned them both around, and they ran off, their small foot steps echoing in the hall. The ran out the door and jumped down the steps slowly, counting them.7

“One!” Lillith yelled.8

“Two!” Layla screamed. 9

“Three!” Whispered Lillith.10

“Four!” Layla grinned, mouthing the word.11

“Five!”12

“Six!”13

And in unison, they both called out, “Seven!” The giggled and ran off in separate directions in a race already planned to the fountain. Layla, was a fast runner, but Lillith, who was taller, had longer legs, was the fastest, and she always won. As Lillith ran past the beautiful brush of the garden on the moonlit path, she stumbled, and fell to the ground, scraping her knee; she also tore her dress up a little, which her mother would be angry at her for. She let out a soft whimper as the cold blood ran down her leg, soon disappeared. She got up and began running again, hoping that she would still win. 14

That wouldn’t be the case however. Lillith turned the corner and instead of running, skipped towards the fountain. She stopped dead in her tracks as a horrifying sight that no three year old should have to see. 15

There was Layla. Or part of Layla, rather. Her head, only her head, with a small post-it note stuck to the forehead. Her eyes were wide with fear, and a puddle of her blood surrounded the decapitated head. Strangely, Layla’s curly black hair remained untouched, and just as beautiful, if not more (as if it had been brushed just a few seconds go)16

Lillith ran back towards the mansion, “AUNT LILITH!” She cried out, screaming through out the whole mansion. Servants, nobles, and other family stared at her as if she was a lunatic. They knew nothing of what Lillith had seen, and thought that she was just getting ready to play a joke and get herself in trouble as usual. 17

“What is it, dear child?” Another voice rang out. It was soft, elegant, and kind.18

Lillith spun around, her face shining with her tears of blood, “Aunt Lilith..” She whimpered softly, falling to the ground. She put her hands up to her face, and soon found her Aunt, the Queen hugging her to her chest, “Auntie…” She whimpered softly.19

“Well, Lillith, what is wrong?” Her aunt sensed the fear Lillith had, and knew that this was no joke. 20

“Layla..” 21

“Oh no…” Queen Lilith replied, “Shakira…” She whispered softly, and soon, Lillith’s mother appeared by her daughter’s side, “I will..be right back.” 22

Shakira looked down at her daughter angrily, and quickly, her facial expression softened, as if she was an actress. She picked up her daughter, hugging her to her cold body. Lillith’s slender arms wrapped around her mother’s neck. Shakira stood up as Lillith’s bloody tears began to turn her mother’s dress a darker crimson than it was before. 23

Shakira spun around quickly seeing her sister, the Queen glaring at her angrily.24

“You, let down Lillith, now.” The Queen demanded, her eyes flashing dangerously as she approached the two.25

Lillith looked up, “..Auntie..” Lillith was perplexed. She looked at her mother’s face that appeared.26
