"The results of your tests are in!" Mr. T announced, walking down the rows, handing back the sheets of paper. I slumped down in my chair, knowing my result was not the best in the class. 1
I glanced over at my best friend Maddie, who looked upset. I saw the huge mark on the top of the math test, 90. I snarled at her. She was upset with a 90? Although, with her whole parent situation, I guess I couldn't blame her. 2
I heard the slam on my desk as Mr. T's hand shove the paper in my face. 3
"See me after class," I heard him mumble to me, and continued to hand the tests back. I dared to look up, knowing what it would say. I hardly opened up my eye to see the red ink encircling the huge 54. I sighed, knowing the whole crappy situation was about to get 10 times more crappier.4
Everyone began to file out of the classroom as the bell rang. I signalled Maddie to wait for me and approached Mr. T. His hands were folded plainly on his practically empty desk, and seemed to be wating for me to talk.5
"Uh, you wanted to see me?" I shrugged, hugging my books to my chest.6
"Yes, Demi, I need to talk to you about the position of your grades at the moment. If I am correct.." he paused and brought up a screen on his computer, "your grade point average right now stands at a sixty-three. Now you are not failing, but I hate to give students a grade lower than a C- on their report cards. You have about 3 weeks to improve your grade. In that time I'm giving out 4 homeworks, and a quiz." 7
"Is that it?" I asked, turning towards the door.8
"Yes you may go." he said, and turned back to his computer.9
I ran out and caught up with Maddie. "So, a 90 huh?" I asked, kind of mean.10
"Don't act that way," Maddie sighed. I guess I had made her more upset, "you know what my mom will so if I get lower than an A-."11
"Hello! You GOT an A-, so what's up?"12
"Well, I'm actually borderline right now, cuz I got a B in AC and a B+ in ELA. So my mom's actually pretty pissed at me right now." 13
"Oh." I answered, and stooped down to my bottom locker to grab my ELA stuff.14
Sometimes Maddie could get annoying with all her GPAs and getting caught up in grades, but she understood me all the time and was a good friend. I think Maddie can get kind of annoyed with me too. I wear the same sweatshirt every day, I hang out with guys a lot, and I'm practically failing everything except PE, where I'm pulling in a C. 15
"Hey Demi, whatcha get on Math?" Derek asked me. He was one of my best guys friends. 16
"54." I responded casually, slamming my locker. 17
"Sweet," he responded, "I gotta 75, but Freddy got a 40."18
"Can you even get that low?" I asked laughing, as we split off to our seperate classrooms.19
"I guess so." Derek laughed, "oh and Dem, don't forget."20
He threw me a pack of gum.21
