The Swing Chapter Six

"Hey , I don't believe Ive seen you around here before. Are you new?" A guy about six feet tall with short black hair and light green eyes towered over Chalice standing at only about 5"4 as he came up behind her. He was one of those people who was known by everyone and he wasnt a jock. He wasnt a snob as far as she knew and every girl practically died to go out with him. She looked for another person maybe leaning up against one of the red lockers filing along the never ending hallway. 2

After realizing there was no other facing nor attempting to talk to him, she came to find he was talking to her, "Uh sort of, I was here at the end of last year." She had been ignored for the longest time, she finally gave up only to find one of the popular people talking to her.3

"Oh huh," He looked slightly shocked, but moved on, "Are you doing anything this weekend?"4

Chalice was stuck in place,"You don't know my name, my personality, age, nothing about me. Plus I have a boyfriend, don't think he would appreciate it." The thought also crossed her mind that he could possibly have dated every other girl in the school and she was all that was left.5

"Yeah, but I could have gotten to know you and I was getting to the name. Boyfriend? There's another person I haven't met?"6

Chalice laughed,"Like to know everyone?"7

"Yes, one of my interests." He gave a smile, "Well, the names Ace. Yours?"8

"Chalice."9

"Cool. How am I doing so far?"10

Chalice grinned, "Really good."11

"So about your boyfriend?"12

"Oh he doesn't live here, where I used to live, grew up together."13

"Ah, I see. Well since its long distance-"14

Chalice cut him off, "No, friends, that's all." Not giving him the tiniest chance, she didn't want to.15

"I'll take it then. Well class is starting, so see ya around."16

"Yeah." Chalice watched Ace turn around a corner and headed off to her class.17

After walking around a little there was an old swing set and Chalice sat down staring at the stars, thinking of Tom, missing him more and more with every sparkle.18

"Hello." Ace creeped up behind her.19

Startled at the sudden voice, Chalice jumped. "Thanks for sneaking up on me." She continued looking up.20

"Why so glum?"21

"Oh, I just miss what I left behind."22

"Oh when you moved, eh things get better." Watching Chalice stare, Ace decided to see what was so great in the open space. "So what brought you to these swings?"23

Finding that it was probably awkward to see her here,"Well where I lived there was a swing set and I used to just hang around there and think while looking upon the stars, its not to bad, kind of a past thing."24

"Oh, neat. I can see how you would want to do that, peaceful, pretty. Not to bad at all."25

"Yeah."26

"Your not very talkative."27

"Sorry, but did you ever consider you talk to much?" Smiling to indicate it was a joke. "Don't know much to say, haven't gotten to know you."28

"Ok then, what things do you like?" 29

"Uh," looking down at her watch, "Um it doesn't matter much now. I have to go. I'll see you at school though. Bye." She got off the swing and dashed down the street trying to get home.30

Scrambling through her pocket trying to find the key she quietly thought to herself. What was he doing there? Why was he there? She found her keys and forgot the whole thing, she just wanted to get inside and hope she didn't miss Tom's call. Not much of a secret to her parents as they heard her just drop her coat on the floor and pick up the phone making sure not a ring was missed. 31

"He called." Mr. Rogers was trying to get her to stop before her heart popped from pressure. "I told him you would call him back."32

"Oh ok."33

"Lost track of time?"34

"Yeah."35

"Having fun then?"36

Getting the idea that they wanted to prove a point they made earlier, that she would be having fun before she knew it, she just shook her head in reply.37
