Shimmering, flowing down—
Soft and lingering droplets—
Neutralizing the heat of my face,
Calming my senses.1
Remembrances of earlier times,
Flowing, shimmering, effortlessly,
Forgetting yet holding on,
Like rain seeping down and down.2
I reach out my palm,
Hearing the sprinkles,
Seeing the small founts
Upon my wearied skin.3
Flashbacks of instances,
Photos of memories,
Not easily erased,
But washed over.4
My eyes move slowly,
My gaze blurred by the droplets
Hanging down from my lashes.
Beauteous petals on the gate.5
Her hair against my face,
Warm and gentle,
Brushing my ear,
Our lips locking softly.6
Its reddening colors,
Its golden speckles and greenery,
Seemingly laughing in the rain,
Waving about in the breeze…
Then shuddering against the cold.7
Lightning along the black,
Wet and slippery to the step.
Rotations of silver—squealing, sliding—
Immediate silence.8
Falling from its stem,
Landing against the ground,
The rain pounding it, bruising it,
Discoloring its beauty.9
A late ring early in the morning,
Softly spoken whispers
And seldom-uttered words.
Elevated breaths.10
The rain pours harder,
The thoughts—quicker,
My hand closing, squeezing…
And the sun illuminating.11
The hole was deep,
Much too deep and cold.
But similarly, a pathway,
Alighted and warm.12
The rain begins to clear,
And I open my eyes
To see her slowly drifting away…
