There once was a little girl who had no one to love her, or so she thought. She was so used to being blocked out, pushed away, and ignored that she started to do the same thing to every one around her! She cried four tears every night as she lay awake in bed. The first tear was for the love she longed to find. The second tear was for her unhappy past. The third tear was for all the pain that she felt inside. And the fourth and last tear was for never letting any one else hurt her. As the little girl grew, the four tears no longer helped her to ease the pain she felt. The little girl began to look for new ways to make herself feel better. While searching she realized that if she hurt herself then no one else could or would hurt her. From the day that she discovered this, that is what she did! Eventually the ways that she would hurt herself changed, but the outcome was still the same... A hole that she kept digging deeper and deeper. Then one day she was digging her hole and she saw something new! She saw a hand reaching out to her from way up at the top. She thought about it and decided that it was too far away so she continued to dig. The next day she saw another hand; this continued to happen until the top of the hole was completely surrounded by hands. She still did not take hold of them though. The next day as she was digging she looked up, only to realize that there were no more hands. She felt good and proud because she did not give into the people and let herself get hurt! At that very moment she saw something slowly moving down into her hole. She stopped digging and waited to see what it was. When it came close enough she realized that it was a chain of people who were coming to pull her out of her dark hole. She felt afraid and sad; all she had ever known was in her hole. She eventually gave in and took hold of the chain.... that little girl is all grown up and writing this story. 1

Very sad. I love the way you used the hole as a way of isolation. Beautifully written.
