The most interesting thing to do on a lazy day in the district is to watch street bums pick up fag ends from where they’ve been dropped idly onto the sidewalk. It’s like a test, seeing how long it is before you have to resort to fucking or looking around for trouble.

Interesting but a little confusing--I'm not sure I understand the vocabulary. :-) Still, great job on introducing the character's voice into the story. I'd certainly read more!
