I've never been a big fan of surprises. Surprise parties scare me and every time my boyfriend says "I have a surprise for you' all I can envision is my ultimate demise. I think it was my subconcious warning me.

Excellent opening! The character's tone is wonderful--sardonic and exageratted, with a nice punch in the last line. I wonder what ever happened to make her so afraid of surprises? :-)
