The River

We all live in two worlds. In the world of common experience I live and work alone on a small farm beside a narrow river. The other world is a dark and despairing wasteland ravaged by conflict. And yet, both worlds are one.

Good job at introducing the premise of your story in the first line. You also give us a surprising amount of character--who is this person who understands the existance of both worlds, yet lives alone on a small farm? Interesting. I'd certainly like to read more!

Thanks for entering the contest, and good luck!

Well, you can (read more). This is the real opening of my novella of the same name, posted here on StoryWrite.

Good contest, although I personally like "What do you mean I'm not human?" as the best opening line.

I'll go read "The River" as soon as I'm done reading through the contest entries. :-)

I just read "Outsider" ("What do you mean I'm not human?"), and I'm inclined to agree so far, it is one of the best in the contest. Of course, yours here is pretty nice as well. As I said, I can't wait to read your story! :-)
