Opposites (Afterword)

What Really Happened: From the Notes of the Writer1

After the Ninth Installment:
Kayli never returned from the forest. She was pronounced dead ten days after the search party was sent out five times. Caleb gave up hope after the second attempt, but Jay kept on looking. Lily, Jay, Caleb, and Grace waited for Kayli’s return. The day Kayli was marked dead, Saline showed up on Caleb’s doorstep, unannounced. In her arms was a small bundle, and explained the story behind what everyone knew.2

The Story of Kayli (In the Words of the Author)
You never really learned Kayli’s feeling, thoughts, or emotions through the whole story. I will tell you now that she loved Caleb and Grace dearly and was recovering quickly from her angst and anger toward life, her mother’s death, and her hate towards Caleb. During the day she spent in the attic (Chapter 7), she spoke with Saline and talked about the prophesy of Grace. Saline told her that was a cover-up for the real prophesy: the next Great Elemental.
Saline told Kayli that the next Great Elemental was to be born from one of fire and air. Kayli understood that neither she nor Caleb would admit to anything, and probably wouldn’t agree to anything. She agreed to use special magic to birth the baby, and until the time was right, the child would stay with Saline.
All of this took place on that one day which was so very important. I never told you what took place, and so I hope you picked that small clue up. Of course, I never really told you whether Kayli and Caleb loved each other, and I don't suppose I'll ever say the truth on that.3

After the Ninth Installment: -continued-
After Saline explained, Jay objected and tried to prove otherwise. Lily and Caleb sat quietly for a few moments, but Lily finally spoke up, “What’s the baby’s name?”4

Saline explained the gender of the child and that her name was Airlia. She then set the baby on the chair, and watched her examine her fingers. The child had tufts of brown hair, but her eyes were a fierce ice blue.5

Here is the end of Opposites; the tale has closed.
Their lives are not over; the end has not yet come.
The future is foggy, and so I tell you:
the future might just be written.6

Stay tuned.

Author notes

Gawd. I hate this story; I'm so sick and tired of it. I thought I should post this up anyway, just in case you wanted to know what happened. I just know I'm doing way better than this now
