Tales of the Heart {Part II}

After the movie, they all split off and drove to a restaurant. When they got there, Shelby cut off the car and looked at Kelly.1

"Yo hoe..." She nudged her slightly. "What's up?"2

Kelly shrugged. "Somethin's up with Jordan. He kept leaving during the movie, and hardly ever looked at me." She looked at her friend. "Did Alex tell you anything?"3

Shelby shook her head. "Nu uh. Sorry. But lighten up. Didn't he say he was having family issues or something?"4

Kelly sighed and unbuckled. "Yeah..." She opened the door and stepped out. Right when she did, Alex grabbed her arm.5

"I gotta talk to you..." he whispered. She looked over at Jordan, who was leaning against the hood of his car. he didn't even bother to look at her. She looked back up at Alex. "Be right back," he told Shelby before leading Kelly to the side.6

She looked up at him, about ready to cry. "What's going on?"7

Alex sighed and looked down. "I'm sorry... I wish I didn't have to do this... But... Jordan wants to call it off... With what's going on in his house, with his family and all, he just doesn't want a girlfriend right now... I'm sorry..."8

Kelly was in tears. She turned away from Alex and walked back to the car. She couldn't even look in Jordan's direction. She just opened the door, sat, and closed it. Shelby leaned down into the car, and after seeing Kelly's tears, she opened the driver-side door and got in.9

"What happened?"10

Kelly looked up at her. "He got Alex to break up with me for him."11

"Oh God..." Shelby leaned over and wrapped her arms around Kelly, who began sobbing. "I'm so sorry..." She looked up at Alex, who was standing beside the open door, and shook her head. He mouthed "I love you" and turned and walked back to Jordan.12

"You wanna go home?" she asked. Kelly nodded silently. She looked out the window at Jordan as Shelby closed her door, buckled, and cranked the car. She leaned her head against the window as they drove off, and wiped away her tears, though more ran down her cheeks afterwards.13

"Can we go to your house?" Kelly asked quietly.14

"Yeah. Want me to call your mom and ask?" Kelly nodded." Okay.." Shelby waited until she hit a stop light and then grabbed her phone. She dialed Kelly's number and waited until her mom picked up.15

"Hello?"16

"Hey. Can Kelly come home with me tonight? She's in the bathroom right now, so she had me call and ask."17

"Sure. Does she need to come get some clothes or something?"18

"No, she still has some at my house."19

"Alright then."20

"Thanks. Bye."21

"Bye."22

Shelby closed her phone and glanced at Kelly. "She said okay." Kelly just nodded, her eyes watching the road. The tears were dried on her cheeks, and her eyes were still watered, but she had stopped crying.
