"Kelly! Come on!"1
Kelly dashed out of her bathroom. "Coming!" she yelled back. She held a brush in her hand and started to brush her hair, watching herself in the mirror.2
"Kelly!" There was a loud knock downstairs.3
She let out a frustrated sigh and put the brush down. She reached up and pulled back her long, straight brown hair, walking back to her bathroom. She tied her hair with a scrunchie and shook loose some long strands of bangs. After her hair was fixed, she hurried out of her bathroom, turning off the light, and grabbed a black jacket and a white purse from her bed. With one last glance in the mirror, Kelly bolted out her bedroom door and down the stairs, only to hear her name being called yet again.4
"I said I was coming!" she told Shelby as she walked to the front door.5
"Well we're gonna be late. Come on." She opened the door. "Jordan and Alex already called. They're waiting for us."6
"Yeah, yeah." Kelly followed Shelby out the door and closed it behind her. The car was still running when she opened the passenger door and climbed in. Shelby did the same, and after closing their doors and putting on their seat belts, they backed out of the driveway.7
Shelby had been Kelly's best friend for going on four or five years now. They did everything together. They thought alike, had the same interests, likes, and dislikes; they were practically twins. They had been through a lot together, and both their parents knew that when one got in trouble, they were both involved. Needless to say, they were literally inseparable.8
Kelly's cell phone began to ring in her purse. She answered it as they stopped at a red light.9
"Hello?"10
"Hey. Where are you? We're gonna miss the movie."11
"We're almost there. Sorry."12
"Alright. Just hurry. Alex is really getting on my nerves."13
Kelly laughed. "Alright. We'll be there in a few. Love you. Bye."14
"Bye."15
"Jordan?" Shelby asked as she drove.16
"Duh. Who else?" Kelly replied, closing the phone. Shelby shrugged.17
Kelly had known Jordan for about two years, and they had been dating a little over five months now. She was literally head-over-heels for him. He had been her first steady relationship, and her first love. Shelby had a bad feeling about him, because of his past, but she put it aside anyway, knowing how much Kelly loved him. She was still uneasy, and never fully trusted him with her friend's heart.18
They were pulling into the theatre parking lot when Kelly's phone rang again.19
"Hello?"20
"Hey."21
"Hey. Sorry, I can't talk."22
"Why not?"23
"I'm about to see a movie with Jordan."24
"Oh... Okay... I guess I'll talk to you later then..."25
"Yeah. Bye."26
"Bye."27
Kelly hung up the phone.28
"Who was that?" Shelby asked as she turned off the car.29
"Julian." Kelly opened the door and stepped out.30
Julian was a good friend of Kelly's. She hadn't known him long, but there was always one good thing about him: he could always make her laugh. Sometimes, though, she couldn't stand him; others, she'd choose to hang out with him rather than Jordan, if they had an argument or anything big, or even small, happened. She could tell Julian had feelings for her, but she tired to put it out of mind. He was a friend, and she was in love with Jordan. She often found herself repeating this to herself, and as she put on her jacket over her red halter top, she was caught thinking the same.31
But then she saw Jordan, and Julian completely left her mind. She returned her phone to her purse after putting it on vibrate, and swung her purse onto her shoulder. Shelby and she walked to the entrance and greeted both boys with a peck on the lips.32
Kelly turned and leaned into Jordan's arms and smiled. "The best feeling in the world", as she would put it. She looked over at Shelby and Alex. They had been dating a while over a year. They had had their moments, but they were still crazy about each other. Kelly only hoped that her relationship with Jordan would last just as long.33
After a moment of watching them, Kelly saw that Shelby had an uneasy look on her face. She looked up at Jordan, who seemed to be staring into space. It was then that she noticed the only thing keeping his arms around her waist was her, holding his hands over her stomach. She dropped them and turned, looking up at him.34
"Hey... What's wrong?" She tilted her head with a frown, looking up at his eyes. He looked back down at her and shook his head.35
"Nothing... We're missing the beginning of the movie. Come on. I already have your ticket." Kelly still seemed unsure, and continued watching him. He flashed that sweet smile of his and kissed the top of her head. "Everything's fine, babe. Promise." She smiled slightly, and he took her hand before leading her into the theatre.
