Lily shifted slightly in her seat. She crossed her legs as she glanced up from her book. Lifting her eyes slowly with her chin down to the right she caught 'his' eye. In the corner of the cafe he sat taking a slow draft of his steaming coffee.1
Holding the gaze for a brief three seconds would be long enough to not be considered incidental but short enough to not freak him out. She looked back at her book with a small but defined smile. She picked up her coffee and drank, savoring the taste.2
She set the drink down and glanced over at the door then swept her view across the room. Lily lingered on the guy in the corner, caught his eye then, quicker than before, looked away finishing her sweep of the room. Her smile once again lured the guy in.3
Lily turned her gaze back to her book but watched him out of the corner of her eye. She did not glance back but kept reading. He glanced at her and tried to catch her gaze but she kept her focus on the book.4
He looked away, looking a little disappointed. Lily caught him staring at her again but did not return the glance. Finally on his third try she looked up at him. She drank in his eyes and then let him watch her take in his over all appearance. She came back up to his eyes with a smile.5
Looking away she glanced at her book quickly and then back at the guy. She took a deep breath and started to read again with another smile. Taking another drink of coffee she found it empty and started to gather her things. As she placed a tip on the table some one move behind her.6
"Hi, I was wondering do you have the time?" Lily turned around to see the man she had been playing the "glancing game" with standing with a great smile on his face. She pulled her phone out of her bag and opened it to get the time.7
"Five minutes past five." She said with a smile. Seeing that his collar was slightly tweaked she reached up and adjusted it. "Sorry your collar was popped on one side and down on the other. Seeing how well you dress I figured it was supposed to be down."8
"Thank you. Did you say five after?" Lily nodded. "Wow I have more time than I thought. Do you want to catch a movie with me?" His comfortable demeanor made Lily even more comfortable.9
"I'd love to. I'm Lily." She smiled and extended her hand. He took it and replied with his smile all the larger.10
"Mat." When he withdrew his hand he gestured toward her bag. "So what were you reading?" He stuck his hand in his pocket and listened to her response.11
"Pride and Prejudice. Just some thing to pass the time." Lily finished with the tip and pulled her bag over her shoulder.12
"Oh, so are you ready to go?" Mat asked pretending that he didn't already know that she was about to leave.13
"Yes, shall we?" Lily said exaggerating her gesture towards the door.14
"Sure." And they walked out the door to go on an unplanned first date.

Well, as for teaching me, amazing! The 'glancing game' hunh? I likes. I likes a lot. It's a bit better than the one I used to try, 'the staring game'. Yeah, the ending is a bit as if, but for the meaning and purpose of the story, as well as how well you described things, then wonderful write!

Ya the techniques I wanted to teach were A: glancing game B: flirty glances C: physical contact D: complement

Needs more interesting title, you used the same word (Lily) to start off around three paragraphs. Try to add more word choice and add more too it. More detail describing Lily and Matt, where they are at, the atmosphere. And other things like that.
Seems too fantasy like, there were some cute parts but I don't think any man or woman will simply ask you out if they thought you were cute. -

Thanks for the advice but I also wrote this for a contest. The point of the contest was to teach the one who made the contest how to flirt.
