“Stop it, stop putting these things in my mind!”3

“You deserve them. This is what he wants to do you know, you’ve made him mad, he deserves to do this”4

“No… he wouldn’t hurt me, he wont hurt me…”5

“He will, you know full well he has a temper, and look at what you’ve done this time”6

“You did it! You did this!”7

“Nope, not in his eyes”8

“He wouldn’t hurt me…”9

“Yeah he would, he has before hasn’t he?”10

“But…”11

She runs the blade across one more time, then cleans it away and gets out her tissues. Holding it down until the blood calms. And then the salt, that dreaded salt I insist she uses to keep it clean12

“You’re going to make him even more mad, cutting again. You know how he gets…”13

“Yeah but this is helping you ain’t it?”14

“I guess… kinda…”15

“Well then”16

Rubbing the salt one last time, she extends the wrist out across the bed and proceeds to try and sleep, as I lie dreading17

Dreading sleep, for what I will see
Dreading the morning, to face the anger of the one closest to me.18
