Rorrim's Game

I feel the carpet of the stairs burn under my feet and it presses me to move faster. Almost there, one more step. I run into my room, slam my door shut, and lock it. Adrenaline races through my veins as I clutch the phone in my hand. I don’t know what to do, who do I call? Casey! That’s it! I’ll call Casey! I pull the phone up and start to dial the number I know so well, but I stop. I can’t call her, she’ll say I told you so. I can’t call anyone, no one will believe me.1

Realization sets in and I start to cry, mom and dad won’t be home untill 4 a.m. and it’s only 10 O’clock. I have to do something! I can’t just sit in my room for 6 hours, I might not last that long. 2

“Adrianne….” I hear it whisper my name and I start to cry harder, it’s right outside my door. It knows I’m in here. I back away from my door and start pacing around my room. What do I do? I’m stuck, it’s cornered me and now I’m stuck. My eyes fall onto the window on the far wall of my room and then flicker back to my door. The jump itself might kill me but it’s the only option I have, either way I’m dead. 3

I hear a creek come from behind me as I go to the window and pull it open. I know what it is, where it came from. I don’t have to look behind me to know that the door is open. 4

“Adrianne….” I hear it whisper my name again and this time it’s closer, in my room. I swing my right leg over the edge of my window and my left one soon follows. My right foot slips and then I’m falling. When I hit the ground it’s just as I thought, the fall kills me.5

“Adrianne…” It whispers, wait I’m dead, aren’t I? 6

“Yes.” I barely hear the whisper. I didn’t say anything!7

“You don’t have to. I hear your thoughts, we are one now.” But I don’t want us to be one, I want to be one by myself! I want to go back to living and I want you to leave me alone!8

“I’m sorry, I can’t do that.” Yes you can, you can do anything.! You said it yourself! 9

“Okay, so I can. But, I won’t. I’ve waited to long for you to follow me into the dark.” I don’t want to be in the dark! I don’t want any of this! I never did! I want to be in the light!10

“It’s warmer in the dark.” A shiver rolls down my spine. Whatever, can you just tell me your name? I’m tired of calling you ‘it’.11

“I don’t have a name. Though I’ve found kids call me by Rorrim.” What do you want me for, Rorrim?12

“You played my game and you lost. It’s the rules. I get to….let‘s just say you won‘t be returning.” That’s not fair! There is no way to win your game!13

“So you think.” I stare into the dark, waiting for him to tell me how to win. Just give me one more chance! One more, please? I’m begging you!14

I hear him mutter something, then a bright blue light spreads itself around me. When we get back to the dark we are sitting down in what looks like a theater.15

Why are we here?16

“Just watch.” The big screen in front of us lights up and a girl appears, not just any girl, Casey. I look to the seat beside me, where I assume Rorrim is sitting. 17

What’s going on?18

“You’ll see.” I go back to looking at the screen and I notice that Casey is at my house. At the crime scene standing over my body, looking down at me with tears in her eyes. She backs away from me and goes to my parents. 19

“I’m sorry this happened.” She says and she knows. Knows what happened, what game I played because her sister played to. 20

“So are we. We’re sorry you had to go through losing her to. We just- we thought she knew better then to play that game.” My mom said crying, tears in her eyes and falling down her cheeks. My dad held onto her tight.21

“She did it because she thought I was lying about how my sister died. She said she was going to try it and prove me wrong. I begged her not to.” Casey said, looking down at the ground. 22

The screen goes black and I turn to the seat beside me where I see a cloaked figure. No face, no hands, or feet as I can see. 23

“This is all of me you get to see for now. Everyone that plays my game gets a second chance. If they ask for one.” The hooded head nods and I am thrust back to when this all began. My second chance will have a better ending. 24

Wow, from reading the beginning I thought it would be more of a keep-me-on-my-toe-might-pass-out thriller. And while I would have liked that as wel I really liked what you wrote as well. It seemed a little child-like, but I would love to read a longer version where the characters are built up and there is more suspense.
    Great job
