falling in love... with Farm Boy part 3

Chapter 3: Overnight Fame1

Over the next few hours George and I were officially dubbed a couple throughout the entire town. Everyone knew exactly how the whole thing happened, thanks mainly to Ginger. She was on her way out of her room to use the bathroom at the exact time that I grabbed George. She quickly IM’d all her friends and soon enough, everyone knew about the kiss.2

It was the kissed that stopped the world. At least, it stopped my world. I never imagined that I could fall so hard for anyone, especially not a farmer. I did though.3

I spent the entire night thinking about him. The entire kiss replayed in my head like a scene from a movie that was just rewound over and over again. Every time I felt the exact same thing.4

First I’m floating, not thinking about anything and hoping it’ll turn out okay. That was when I was hugging him, in a close embrace. A sort of confusing embrace, but still, it was only me and him. There was nothing else to the world.5

Then the kiss itself. It was magic and his arms lightly grabbing the back of my shirt had to be the only thing keeping me pinned onto the floor. A tingling kept renewing itself upon my lips as they wished for his touch once again.6

Before I knew it the sun was rising and shining in through George’s window right into my face. George walked in quietly just as the sun peeked over and reached my eyes.7

“Delilah” he whispered as he stretched out the word.8

I smiled and lazily turned onto my side and faced the door.9

“Mornin’” I yawned.10

“Ma’s got breakfast goin if you’re hungry. Dad and I have to head out to the field for a bit. Will you go out and feed the animals in a few hours?”11

“Of course.” I said still half-yawning, half- smiling.12

“Um,” he started then abruptly said, “never mind. I’ll see ya.”13

With that he left before I could say anything.14

“Delilah,” Ginger whispered as I closed my eyes to finally get some sleep, “Delilah, wake up.”15

“Hmm?” I maoned.16

“Is it true? Do you love him? Are you dating? Did he sleep in here last night? How long have you been dating?-” Ginger let any and every question she had for me whiz out of her mouth within a few seconds as I groggily sat up and tried to figure out what she was talking about.17

“I’m sorry, what?” was the only thing I could manage to piece together.18

“You and George. Everyone who’s anyone is talkin about it. So, tell me.”19

“Me and George?”20

“Oh don’t do that,” she complained, “George tried playin it off like he didn’t know what I was talkin about either, but he’s a horrible liar. Please tell me.”21

“Alright, I need some coffee before I tackle this one.”22

She let out a small sigh before finally saying, “all right” in a very disappointed tone.23

She was right though, everyone knew. My cell phone was full of texts from people in the town that I didn’t even hang out with. How did they all get my number? I was expecting the worst from his parents when I walked out into the kitchen. I almost decided that going out through the window and completely ignoring them would be a better idea. In the end I couldn’t resist the sweet smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen and the scent of bacon that was hanging in the air.24

In the kitchen George’s mom was standing by the stove. “Mornin dear, sit down and I’ll get you some breakfast.”25

“Thank you,” I said a little befuddled. She didn’t seem to know anything, but Ginger on the other hand was about to fall out of her seat knowing that she would be the first one with the inside scoop at what I figured was the biggest news in gossip for quite some time.26

“So, Lilah, how you feelin? Anything I can get for you?” she asked sweetly as she set a plate down in front of me.27

“Oh, I’m fine, thanks.” I said standing to pour myself some coffee.28

She had just barely turned around the corner into her bedroom when Ginger whispered to me, “Are you two dating?”29

“No.” I whispered back with a bit of a smile starting to shine through.30

“But you did kiss?” she nearly yelled.31

“Shush, yeah, why is this such a big deal?”32

“Well,” Ginger said, “it’s not really a big deal. It’s just if there’s no gossip going around then there’s nothin much for anyone to do.”33

“Huh,” I said with the perfect way to drive Ginger insane, “if there’s nothing to do when there’s no gossip, maybe I shouldn’t tell you what’s going on. You know, it’ll give you something to talk about.”34

“No!” she yelled.35

“Everything alright?” George’s mom asked walking out of the bedroom.36

“Ya, we’re fine ma.” Ginger said and her mom left again, “tell me. Please.”37

I just looked away and took a sip of my coffee.38

It was amusing that she just crossed her arms and scowled at me while I finished my breakfast.39

“Alright Ginger,” I started and she immediately sat straight up in her chair, “come on, I need to feed the animals. I answer your questions. Not that it is any of your business.”40

After squealing very loudly she ran to get her shoes on and was out the door for five minutes before I was.41

“Okay, what-” she started as I walked out the door. At that very moment someone driving by (I think it was Billy’s car) honked.42

“How many people know?” I asked.43

“Everyone. Except the adults, of course, they don’t care.” she stated matter-of-factly, “now, tell me exactly what happened.”44

Around back we fed the horses, cows, chickens, and pigs while I explained beyond every detail I could to Ginger before she finally ran out of questions for me.

Please tell me what you think.

i so love this! Ginger sounds like a lot of the people at school. Doesn't take long to know if someone likes someone..its interesting. Great Job! Can't wait to read the next part.

It was ok, but seemed to drift from what was going on thru the first two stories, I think that this might be an answer to the response that one of the people wrote about explaining more of what Delilah is like.

While the story flowed well, it was short and I hope that there will be more to come and this is a tease for the next part of it. Good job though, your writing skills are getting alot better.

I'm having a hard time not believing the guy's mother didn't roll her eyes during some of the scenes. Because my eyes were sure rolling. And, to think, I've plumb gone ahead and missed the first two chapters already.
