Six o'clock could not have come fast enough for me the next day. I waited all day, looking all but constantly at the clock on the wall above the door. At exactly 5:37, I decided to look again, and standing underneath my wooden clock was Connor. Black jacket and scarf again, with blue jeans, this time wearing a blue t-shirt. He looked fantastic.1
I decided the best way to say 'hi' would be to deliver the good news. "I found that book you were looking for," I called. "Bad news and good news: good news, it's in Michigan; bad news, it's gonna cost you $55."2
He showed me his perfect straight white teeth in the most beautiful smile I had ever seen in all my many years here. "I don't care. As long as you found it, there is no bad news. Just get it here, I'll give whatever the seller wants, and I'll pay you shipping to get it here." He sure was a charmer.3
"Just let me close up, come on back here behind the desk and look important until 6 and we'll have dinner. I'm buying, don't argue," I grinned, turning away from him to help a customer who had just walked up to the counter. I heard a sigh behind me and the creaking of the old barstool I always sat on. I waved goodbye to the customer, then turned to Connor again. "Twelve Pines has the best pizza in the area, its definitely worth the stop. Maybe I could show you around the area some afterward?"4
"Sounds good," he replied, a shy smile creeping over his chiseled features again. "As long as you're the guide." This statement was shy, almost formed as a question. As if I would have left him there to find his way about without me!! Who was this guy kidding? I may have been immortal, but I was still female!5
