The Registered Guardians

There once was a girl of indeterminate age who sat on a swing set, swinging aimlessly back and forth. She wasn't really paying much attention to the time, for it seemed to pass so slowly as to be inconceivable. Back and forth she swung on her swing set, her eyes seemingly vacant of thought.1

It was only when someone passed by that she appeared to be conscious of her actions.2

"Hello, lady. May I assist you in determining the whereabouts of your registered guardians?" the kindly gentleman inquired.3

"Nay," she replied simply, "I already possess the knowledge of their location. My eyes can perceive them from this vantage point."4

The gentleman smiled a confused yet bemused grin and continued, "My eyes do not perceive anyone else in the area. What vantage point is this that you can perceive what my eyes cannot?"5

The girl abruptly stopped swinging, her eyes focused on his face.6

Her eyes lit up and she replied, "Position yourself next to me, and I shall indicate their location, good sir."7

The gentleman nodded, not noticing the subtle change in her demeanour. He knelt next to the swing, his face next to hers, as she pointed over to a hill on the horizon.8

"That is where my guardians rest."9

The gentleman was puzzled, but did not think to question her further.10

As if sensing his intention to rise from his kneeling position, the girl queried, "Sir, to where do you intend to go to now?" He looked at her calmly and replied, "I do not know. Perhaps I shall return to my comfortable abode."11

With a malicious grin, the girl turned her poisonous stare to his face. In a brief moment of horror, he realized what his fate would be, but his reaction had come too late; she had already slit his throat. His sticky blood left a faint stain on the surrounding grass and the girl looked at him curiously for a moment.12

"Or perhaps not. Perhaps I shall introduce you to my guardians..."13

And with a giggle, she stood up from the swing set and began preparing the arrangements…14
