It had always been like this. She would make friends with a boy, and they would start to like her. Eventually they'd ask her out, and she'd have to say no. Saying no was hard for her, harder than anything else in the world. At home, if you said no, well... 2
She didn't want to think about that. 3
But, that was before they took her away, to a small town in the middle of nowhere. Christian parents, and rules which she would never be able to follow.4
Keeping close to the side of the road, she clutched her book to her chest. Inhaling the smell of fresh horse patties, she vowed she would never live in the country again.5
"Hi." A voice came from behind her, startled, she looked up, and saw the sky blue eyes of fate. She knew, upon a glance, that she was in love. "I saw what happened back there, turning guys like that down isn't easy. Especially when half the school would give anything to just have one night with him."6
Voice wavering, she looked down and replied, "Yeah, I guess he is pretty good looking." Her cheeks turned red, the same red that was splashed all over her skirt from art class. "I, umm... I..." She tried to make her lips form words, but instead, she mumbled and her toungue became clumsy, tripping over the easy words that had all her life been her only companion. Why they chose to forsake her now she would never know. 7
A laugh, echoing off of the plants, disappearing into the deep blue sky, only to return like the rays of the midday sun, sprang from the lips of her companion. "So, what's your name? You're new here, right?"8
"Yes, ummm... My name is Caleb." Blushing, she once again looked at the ground.9
"Caleb, isn't that a boys name?" Stepping in front of her, the girl who Caleb loved planted her feet squarley, not letting her move. "Well Caleb, I'm Emily. I've seen you around a lot. Would you like to be my friend?"10
Her country innocence kept her from seeing the hunger in Caleb's eyes. She instead took it as a desire to have a friend. She knew nothing of the lust that Caleb felt.11
"Yes, Caleb is a boys name... And, I would like very much to be your friend." Having said that, she fell silent, and let Emily talk all the rest of the walk to school.12
Author notes
duno if ill finish, so, here's the story in a nutshell (its depressing, but, hopeful)
caleb lived in LA, with an abusive father and an alcoholic ex playboy mother. her mother, angry that she had a girl, named her caleb. caleb was molested as a child, by both her father and a teacher. she learned later in life that she was gay, after trying to have sex with a boy she thought she loved. she was taken away from her parents when police were called because her mother hit her younger sister. given to a foster family in kansas, she quickly learned that "her kind" were not accepted.
her mothers beauty carried on through caleb, so she was asked out by many boys, each time it got harder to say no. then she met emily, who she fell in love with. emily was innocent, while a year older, she was niave, and full of the love of the world.
together they discover themselves, and a way to break free from society's bonds. together they escape, facing many trials and tribulations along the way.
