What is it like being a Twin?

Written for/Dedicated to, my twin sister Bianca (6 minutes older). For to her strength and love, as she is about to give birth to my niece (in a bout a weeks time)

What is it like being a Twin?

I remember how we had to share a room; I should have been young enough for no fighting. Instead, your closeness became the match to petrol doused wood waiting. You pushed and I pulled, we were supposed to be twins so very alike. Having such crazy fun with it all. I do recall swapping identities with you once, maybe two or three times…

I laugh now at the periods where I was missing a front tooth and had a cast on my arm. The first time the dreaded monkey bars. The second, crazy as it was not too long after the first. I broke the same bone falling down some stairs. I remember hating that everyone could pick me for me and you for you.

Now somehow I appreciate it. All the identicalness and Nan dressing us the same. There where snippets little time frames of individuality.

People ask, “What is it like to be a twin”? And they do it with such fascination in their eyes. I answer honestly every time, “sometimes it’s great and fun, sometimes it sucks and I want to be more of an individual. Above all that she’s my sister.”

It is as simple as that you see…

Her being my twin does not come first in my eyes. Being my sister, my blood relation and someone who has always been there for me, are what come first.

That she is my twin sister is an absolute bonus. It did give us the chance to grow and mature become better friends. She would give me her shoulder to cry on and I would catch her when she fell.

Great memories of the countless times we have lost control and are rolling around on the floor sides hurting from (pee yourself worthy) giggling fits.

Occasionally we got too close to one another and we butted heads. Sad to say once or twice we even got violent. However, as sisters do, one will arrive with words and break the ice eventually. The joy in that of course, half an hour later it is all completely forgotten.

Bianca knows the pain I feel when I cry out for my mother (passed 7yr’s ago) and can calm me, giving me the smile that should come with the good memories of her. Since her passing, we have naturally become a lot closer. The two of us, walk without her but stronger now, together.

My beautiful twin sister is about to give birth. One of lifes many exciting journeys to embark on. She is in my thoughts daily. I have such excitement for the near future, meeting my niece. Also, I pray for her to stay safe, for them both too.

What is the opposite of two? A lonely me, a lonely you.

If my twin sister, my best friend did not exist. There would be the loneliest me you could ever meet. I would not even be me!

Love you Bianca…

I loved this line! I can totally relate! It's a very cute piece, and I adored it from start to finish. Most of the things you said also go for my sister and I! Good luck in the contest, and have a wonderful day!

    ..Of COURSE I liked this.
It had one of my favorite quotes in it and it was one of my favorite subjects. (Twins!)

Kay, before I get to what I'm supposed to be doing, I'm gonna ramble a bit! Just so that you don't think I'm a total freak.
I'm obsessed with twins, lol, you read that in the contest. I don't know why. I just find them beautiful, I guess, that must sound weird! I know a lot about them, and I think one of the reasons is because my father was a twin, but his twin died at birth. He had a twin sister. That, as you may or may not know, means that I am in the generation that has a likely chance of having twins! lol, sorry. The point is, I don't want you to think I'm some freak or soemthing I've also always had a thing for twins because ever since I read this book, a few years ago, that involved twins, a boy and a girl, that died. One was killed so the other took her own life. They were only five years old.
I found that devastating. So yeah.
About your story! I loved how you recalled much of your chldhood, then told us about the future. This was a pretty nicely written piece with a lot of fiun and heartfelt emotion. I really loved that!
It was very sweet and very cool. Thank you sooo much for entering! ...And the quote fit perfectly
    So. I WISH YOU LUCK!

    Thanks!
    xoxo
    Tay

Thanks for a lovely long comment
You are lucky you may have twin, I too am lucky in that we have them on both sides of the famikly, it gets to the point where there's enough twins, that it could go either way. Skip generations or not skip them. So i have a 50/50 chance of having twins
My sister is only pregnant with one, so she missed out, lol.

I would be so excited if I did, form remembering all the great memories with her and knowing my kids could make them too

      Thanks again
