All was covered in blood.
Everywhere around her was the sticky, iron-tang of fresh blood. It soaked into her clothes, her hair, and dripped into her eyes. There was so much of it that her vision was blurred. Shapes and shadows flitting about just outside her line of sight.
Then there was the laughter. She felt violated by the sound of it. The insane mirth made her skin go cold, even as she felt a terrible sickness rise up inside of her. There was something very inhuman about that laughter, and it too seemed to drip with blood.
She felt the tang of it in her mouth, and fought the urge to vomit. Something about it was familar, and that sensation made this whole situation worse then before.
She cried out, only to have the cackling, insane, laughter grow in volume. She struggled and realized she was tied securely into some kind of seat, while still sitting down. She fought against the bonds. Again that sick laughter rose, almost like a hyena's cackle.
That's when she felt the hands touch her in ways that made her sick. The claws that traced the vital soft spots in what seemed to be some kind of gently threat display. She felt sharp, canine-like teeth tease the flesh of her neck.

Mariesk sat bolt upright. Sweat dotted her skin in a cold sheen of fear. She clutched the blankets to her chest, as she fought to steady her breath. Instantly she tried to rationalize it, to remind herself it was only a dream. A horrible nightmare, yes..., but only just a dream.
She got up, naked, from bed and walked towards her private bathroom. In the shower, she washed off the feelings of dread and horror. After a half hour, she stepped back out, refreshed.
Back into her bedroom she walked, still damp from the shower. A towel wrapped around her hair was the only piece of cloth she wore. The moon shone through her curtains in a blue-white glow, highlighting the room with its soft touch. As she past it, she reached out and touched a small moon-stone hanging in the window. She smiled.
All was right with the world. It was only a dream.

I found this when I clicked the 'random' link. And I'm glad I did. I've never heard of WoD, but this was a really good story. The opening was excellent, and you had my attention until the very end. The ending seems a tad cliche, but overall I really enjoyed this. Especially the dream sequence part.

Terrific opening! Even though this is would not be my normal reading genre I had to continue based on the quality of the writing.
A dream sequence; a nice twist with yet another hint of a twist at the end. An outstanding pause in my day.
