Little Saara, Broken Saara

The loud scream seemed to echo through the stone caverns of the base, many looked up from their work, before returning to it. Screams where not anything new in their business of assassination, but a few recognized the voice and wondered what had drove the girl who had done the screaming to scream A few even stood from their duties to walk to the darkened room that the screamer called home, a small voice could be hear murmuring shuddering every few breaths. 1

“No… no.. no.. no” she opened her mouth to scream again but one of those that had come to investigate put a hand over her mouth bringing her to instant walk fullness, and full alert as she jumped off of the bed a knife appearing in her small hand. 2

“Calm down Saara.” says the same person who had placed the hand over her mouth, the girl Saara calmed dropping out of the defensive pose she was in, reaching out she picks a set of silver spectacles of a near by bed side table. 3

“What do you want?” she asks her voice softer then the panicked murmuring she had been doing earlier. 4

“You where screaming. What’s wrong?”5

“I…I…. you know what happened to me when I was younger right?” she asks pausing long enough to see the other nods their heads. “We… we caught the man he’s in a holding cell here, seeing him has called me to have nightmares of the memories I tried to lock away.” she says as she runs a hand through her roughly chopped silver mane of hair. It used to be waist length but she had to cut it in a battle when the enemy decided it would be nice to try to drag her by it. 6

“Hmm. Whose in charge of his interrogation?” asks another of the group. 7

“I am, infact I should be going now.” with a bow she walks out of the room, but pauses and turns. “I apologize for anything I disrupted.” saying that she takes off at a sprint down a twisting maze of hallways arriving in a  sparsely lit hallway with bared doors that glowed a faint blue. Anyone who didn’t know the code to punch into the panel next to the door would be electrocuted to death if they touched the metal doors. Walking up to a door she pears in a deathly pale man, whose long black hair was now just a nest of notes, his once beautiful clothing all but tattered remnants, the pale light of the hallways reflected slightly off of the metal restraints that bound his wrists and his ankles. The man moved slightly eyes surrounded by black circles staring up as he felt someone watching him. 8

“Little Saara.” his voice was smooth even soothing, if he hadn’t broke out into a hacking dry cough. 9

“Kasin.” says Saara her eyes narrowing as she listened to his cough before smiling. “Broken ribs and several other injuries.” she says to herself as she types a special combination of numbers into the panel next to the door, the number being her own specific identification number, five, zero, four, four, zero, three. The blue on the doors faded as the number was accepted, pushing open the door she walks up to the man named Kasin. “Now you’re the rat caught in the cage.” she says her voice dropping to lower levels as she smiled at him almost viciously. “And little rat I’ve permission to do what I want to you.” she says, before pulling up one of the sleeves of her black shirt. “And every scar I have from you, you will receive them and much more.” she says before pointing to a scar that run around her arm, the mark of his whip against his skin. The man Kasin looked up at her, before sighing. 10

“I regret marking you so harshly. You where too damn stubborn.” he says, before coughing the chains around his wrists clinking together as he tenderly touched his side where the ribs where broken. 11

“I’m sure you do.” she says as takes a deep breath, and pushes her glasses back up on her nose, it was a nervous tick she had, deep in her heart she wondered if she could do the same to him, in a twisted way he was the only family she had ever had. 12

“Nervous little Saara?” asks Kasin his voice slightly mocking her, he more then anyone else probably knew her thoughts. 13

“Humph.” she says as she reaches forward and grabs the chain between hands and roughly hauls him to his feet, glad for the strength training she had been doing since she escaped from him. Or well since she got away, she had the sneaking suspicion he had let her go. 14

“Ah in hurry to get close to me again.” he says taunting her again, though a grimaced passed over his face as she gave him a shake, sending pain through his side. 15

“In a hurry to make you regret ever taking advantage of a child.” she hisses, before dragging him out of the cell and down the hallway towards a black door, that leaked a feeling of despair, this is where many had died, thousands maybe more, a good share under her own hand. She wondered what he thought of her, if he was proud of what he had turned her into. 16

“You came to me little Saara.” he says, before gasping as she turned and slammed him into the wall in one quick action. 17

“I was seven years old.” she hisses. “I was lost and alone. Any child would of did the same thing.” taking a deep breath she opens the black door and shoves him into the room not caring if he tripped over the shackles around his ankles, the scent of the room entered her nose and caused her to grimace in distaste, she was one of the few in the base who still hadn’t gotten used to the scent of dried blood, even fresh blood, the scent made her gag occansily, the sickly copper scent that would linger in the air for hours. Kasin stumbled but kept his balance with a grunt as he leaned against the closet wall, panting from the pain in his ribs. 18

“You know if one of there broken ribs punchered my lung, you won’t be able to have your sweet revenge.” he says a smirk on his face, knowing that she would prefer for him to die from his rib then by her hand, he could still see his sweet Saara behind those eyes. He would be the first to admit he had mistreated her, but then she was so stubborn. She should’ve been happy he took her in, and raised her until she was twenty when she had gotten away. Perhaps he had made the opening for her, perhaps not, but he would take the answer with him to the grave if he could 19

“Drowning in your own blood would be suiting for such scum as you.” she says as she flicks on a light, the room light crackling into life flooding the military grey room with yellow light. Her eyes wandered over to the chair that sat in the middle, that once pine in color was now a dark brown, the color of years of dried blood. 20

“I suppose you want me to sit here.” he says before shaking his head, and walking towards the chair, and sitting down crossing his leg, and looking regal as if he sat upon a thrown and not a chair that had seen years of death. 21

“So eager.” she says, before pushing her glasses back up on her nose and walking towards a cabinet that seemed to blend into the wall, placing her hand on it, it opens with a hiss. “Perhaps you’d just like to tell me what we’d like to know?” she asks as she pulls out a pair of medical gloves and pulls them over her once delicate hands that where now marred with scars and calluses. 22

“Now that would be no fun for you. Aren’t’ you suppose to be satisfying that revenge you always wanted. If I recall the last words you spoke to me where. You’ll pay Kasin, even if I have to die you’ll pay.” he says the memory of her saying those words the skinny twenty year old, her arm still bleeding from the whip that he had just wrapped around her wrist. “You seemed rather serious, your pretty green eyes seemed on fire, little Saara.” in away he wanted her to take her revenge, he wanted her to be realsed from this life he had given her in away, the hate that seemed to rot her once innocent heart, he wandered how many she had killed before him in this room that reeked of death and blood. 23

“Unlike you I don’t enjoy pain.” she says her voice nearly a whisper, as she reached back into the cabinet and pulled out a vial of clear liquid and a syringe, pulling the cover off the needle she pierces the top of the vial and pulls out a measured amount, before putting the vial back in the cabinet. Wondering if he really was just going to sit there like a king on a throne and take it. Most would of done tried to escape, either by attacking her, or killing themselves, especially since he was currently free to move around the room as best he could with the chains around his wrists and ankles. 24

“I know you don’t, you never did.” he says as he bows his head. 25

“Just tell me what we want to do. Make it a good deed, a feeble attempt to wipe away your sins.” she says before shaking her head, and walking towards him, testing the syringe, a small amount squirting out the end. 26

“Wipe away my sins. And what shall you my little Saara do, to wipe away your sins?” he asks as he looks at her, wondering what was in the syringe, pretty sure that he would regret not answering her question in a few moments, but he couldn’t regret, it was his fault she turned out like this. This woman, she was a woman now her body was that of woman abut also her mind, he wondered when the wounded little girl had had time to grow up. He sighed, or perhaps she was just forced to grow up, leaving her jaded and bitter. Again his fault. He smirked, he was building up a lot of guilt about what he had done, he guessed this was karma or maybe fate. 27

“My sins are mine to carry.” she says as she sighs. “Now speak, you don’t’ want to know what this will do to you.” she says as she waves the syringe in his face. 28

“Fine, my little Saara. I shall try to atone for what I did for you, and tell you all you want to know… For that is all I can do in hopes that you regain that sparkle n your eyes.. That I stole.” his voice seemed to waver, nearly cracking as he spoke, he meant every word he said. 29

“Fine then, where is it. Where is the antidote?” she asks, the antidote that would save millions but was held in the hands of only a few, her base, her group had assassinated many in hopes of finding one with the blue liquid in their homes, the savior for the falling world. 30

“The antidote, so that’s what you’ve been after.” he says before shaking his head. “There is no antidote.. That blue liquid that so called life saver… doesn’t exist… It’s all a lie. The money the masses spend is only going towards building a space ship large enough to support a select section of humanity. We are all going to die.” he says the truth made his heart ache… a pain that was almost to familiar the pain he felt every time he had hurt his Little Saara, if only she had listened. 31

“Wha.. What?” she says taking a second to calm herself. “You lie to me now. What happened to want to atone for what you did to me Little Saara.” she says the words hard and they carried such hate. 32

“Saara Rene Vassar, I’m not lying to you.” he says using her rarely spoken full name, few knew it, not even most of the group she was in knew it. 33

“You always told the truth when you used my full name…I remember it was so hard for you to say it. I wonder why.” she says as she looks at the syringe in her hand, wondering if she could just see his face twist in pain once if it was enough to satisfy her need for revenge. 34

“And so I do it again.” she says shrugging., before wincing yet again. 35

“And I believe you….” she says softly, before shoving her glasses back up her nose, where they had slipped down a bit. “So that’s it.. Hope.. Is raised and shattered again.” she laughs a cold sort of laugh as she looks at the syringe yet again. “I wonder if making you hurt will make it any better?” she asks the room more so then him. 36

“I doubt it, but you can do it if you like. I caused you enough hurt, even when you left I’m sure it as still hurting you.. In your memories.” 37

“So you where…. But there was happy memories too.” pausing she walks closer to him. “Not many though.” reaching out she takes his arm into her hand, and looks at the veins on his wrist. “And maybe those happy memories will save you. I forgive you… I never thought I would, I thought.. That all I needed to do was kill you and it’d all be good.” dropping his arm she walks back away the syringe slamming into small bin built into the wall, shattering as it hit the bottom. 38

“Revenge is never the answer.” he says as he looks at his own hands… the hands that had caused her so much pain, his little Saara. 39

“I know that now… nothing will e solved with me hurting you.. I’ll just be like you. And in the end that would be worse then death for me.” she smiles almost sadly, her eyes turning dark. 40

“I don’t think I’d like for that to happen to you. I never thought you would forgive me… I don’t’ deserve.. I never will.” he sighs bowing his head, his knotted hair falling around to shield his face. 41

“Well I do..” and with that she left room with the black door.. The room that had once held her dreams for revenge.. But now held a broken man, her broken dreams shattered all around him…

Very well written, wording was good and full of emotion.
However, I found several spelling errors. The overall story was very original. Though, I think the reader would enjoy living her past or apart of it.

When you begin reading you start out very well, but there are many errors in that first paragraph. I'm sure if you went back you would see them. Also, we don't really get to know Saara as she was, just as she is. We need to know that she wasn't always like this. We need to know that she used to be kind.

Overall a great story, needs some serious correcting on spelling and some grammar. I liked reading it very much.

    Good Job!

Grammar and spelling are my worst enemies lol Thank you for reading. And i'm writing slowly about Saara's past I guess you could see this as the last chapter or so in a novel. Really just a snap shot in time
