~Case of the Ex~

Many times I find myself asking- 1

Why won't you just let go, 2

Let your love for me show? 3

Why do you suddenly shy away 4

When confronted with my questions? 5

When I gaze into your eyes I know it's true, 6

I know you love me too, but you're scared of something, 7

You're holding back, why? 8

Ladies and Gentlemen, pull up your seats, 9

as I present to you The Case of The "Ex". 10

Once in our lives we all must fall, 11

Yes, it's that One -THE One you loved best of all. 12

You let yourself go. You let your emotions take you away. 13

You give in, into the yearnings 14

And embark on the journey. The journey of love, 15

The one more dangerous than all. 16

When beginning this adventure 17

You throw caution to the wind. 18

You open yourself up, all those parts of you, 19

Those vulnerable ones. The parts that scare you. 20

You feel naive, but still safe 21

Because you are entrusting them to the hands of the One. 22

The One who will be there through thick and thin, 23

And can turn your sadness into a grin. 24

You hope and you pray that God will never take them away. 25

So together you climb up the steep ledge. 26

The higher you climb the happier you feel; 27

Leaving the world far below your heels. 28

You are to the point of no return now, 29

You've given all you can give - 30

When all at once it sets in. 31

The One has found something - someone - 32

A different adventure to begin.  33

You hold tight to that hand as it tugs away. 34

You cry and you weep and you hope and you pray, 35

But nothing can be done. The One has pulled away. 36

Leaving you stranded there on the ledge. 37

It's so far down, far down ,and you are now on the edge. 38

All at once you begin to slip, begin to fall, 39

All at once you've lost it all.  40

And down you fall. 41

You know the saying 42

"The higher you are the harder you fall," 43

But what they don't tell you 44

Is what happens next.  45

You fall and fall 46

And the only thing that keeps you from falling any longer 47

Is the ground, that only comes harder 48

And more painful than the last. 49

And you stand there, you are left alone, 50

You glance around and there you see 51

Thousands of tiny pieces, 52

Tiny pieces once known as your heart, 53

So you stoop down and with trembling, tear stained, hands 54

You begin to pick up the pieces of your once happy heart, 55

But it's hard to put them all back together 56

When you're missing a few. You are bloody and broken. 57

And what's to stop you from falling again? 58

You have to protect yourself from this horrid sin.  59

You are left with no trust no love. 60

So you hide, you hide away behind a mask, 61

A mask that makes you seem so strong, 62

And no one will ever know that something is wrong. 63

You build a wall to hide your feelings, 64

And use this in everyday dealings. 65

No one will ever know how hard you have fallen. 66

This, my friends, is the case of the Ex. 67

You see that's what happened to him 68

All in all, and it happened me, 69

And it happened to you. 70

So what's the difference between us two? 71

One will choose to love again, 72

And maybe, just maybe in the end, 73

With time his heart also will mend.  74

He will be able to trust someone, 75

That one who will be his partner for life, 76

And I hope that someone is me.77
