Character Sketch

CHAPTER 1: 1

Lynette climbed steadily to the top of Arthur’s Seat, a hill outside the Edinburgh dormitories. Wiping her brow with the edge of her sleeve Lynette looked around at the picturesque surroundings. The view from the top of Arthur’s Seat was astounding; anything in Edinburgh wasn’t worth half as much as this view. Each house and tree was like little miniatures that you could move around; putting them in whatever place that took your fancy. If only everything in life could be that easy, maybe then Lynette wouldn’t be in the position she was. 2

Sighing Lynette readjusted her backpack and moved on trying to escape the reminiscences of the past, knowing inside though that no matter what she did she would never forget. Each memory was like a fresh wound upon her already bruised body. 3

Two years…in two years you’d think the mental pain would diminish or a least fade to a dull ache, but Lynette should have known. In her 20 years of living she was far from the green creature she’d been in the past. If only she’d known what she knew now, but no she couldn’t change the past. 4

Lynette angrily swiped her long dark mahogany hair out of her face as she tried to get rid of her tears before she had to acknowledge them. If people only cared to look past the facades of others they would notice things that went unsaid, not on her though. She kept everything concealed behind unblemished features not even her chocolate colored eyes gave anything away. 5

Lynette lived two different lives one she showed the world, almost like an actress performing on the stage; the other she kept hidden even from herself. Reaching the top of the hill Lynette took in a deep breath of fresh air, unexhausted by the climb. She took a seat on the highest boulder, relaxing as the wind blew around her. Tomorrow she’d be back at work at the local vegan restaurant in downtown Edinburgh for another hectic six days before she could come back up here to unwind. 6

She stayed up there for a long time watching the world revolve around her.7
