The Taste of Rain

Years ago, I tasted the rain. It's drops looked sweet and refreshing, its taste was dirty, and it shuddered through my mouth and body. But you asked me to open my mouth and take it in, and it looked harmless. So I did.

Every time it rains, I look away, remembering. When the sun is shining, I pretend rain doesn't exist.

And if I bite my lip, maybe the trickle of blood will take the taste of the rain from my mouth.

Because for whatever reason, I can't forget.

Author notes

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with this just yet.

Ohhh interesting. I agree with the others. I could see this becoming a really nice poem. You should write some more of it.

I can see this being converted into a poem. I love this! Cool concept, and great imagery.

This is so interesting, so different. I've never really thought about this before.

It seems sort of metaphorical, as if there's another hidden meaning beneath the words.

"Because for whatever reason, I can't forget."

That's such a beautiful simple line.

Even though it's really very short, it's still beautifully written piece.

    Brava.

I love rain water and the creek water. I'm a pure bread rez kid so any water is drinkable...well except the canal water. Yeah bad stuff there. Tastes like drunk people and algea.
