The Chronicles of Metronome

Intro: Metronome1

Metronome, a colossal mega city that out weighs any civilization known to man or animal. A combination of multiple cities in the United States, Russia, South America, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Twilight shrouds the city in an almost eternal Darkness, but doesn’t hinder the populations eyesight or travel around the boulevards and skyscrapers that tower the city in unbelievable awe. It is in a sense, a utopia, the ideal place without conflict to raise a family. Without war, famine or chaos, the lives of the people are, cheery. Peaceful as it is, a secret lies beneath the streets and slum alleys of the dank inner sanctums of warlords and extortionists. 2

The massive infrastructure of Metronome houses beings, not of this world.3

Entities, these gypsies and fortune tellers alike call them, creatures that have the strength of a hundred Ox’s and the cunning and guile of a ninja master. The entities travel around in plain sight, unknown to the humans because an entity possesses a human child at birth that has been foreseen to have great potential in life. At a certain point during the child’s pre-pubescent era does the entity makes himself known. Most children with entity in them eventually are driven to death, but others live on and the entities completely freeze over, taking utter control of the host.4

Metronome has an abundant society, varyin in nationalities, and cultures, some even became pariahs to there own city, for reasons too hard to believe.5

This takes us too a large, discrete manor on the outskirts of Metronome, where our main characters live alone with the only guardian they could call a “parent.”6

A boy, and a girl, both the last of their family, and both have the potential to become heroes. Jerich and Amelie Paxton, who live with their butler and his maids in the only known remnant of the Paxton family. Their Butlers name is simply, Odickery. The maids are his daughters, Emeiral, Carolel, and Tessa.7

It is the year 2145 on May 10th in the dark time of 8:01:12 AM. But of course, it’s always dark in the Twilight city. 8

Character development: *Jerich*9

“JERICH!!!!!” Screamed from the other side of Jerich’s door, “Time to get up!”10

Odickery yelled.11

“I’m up, I’m up.” said a cranky Jerich as he stoop up out of bed and went to unlock his door. “You don’t have to yell.”12

Odickery sighed and exclaimed, “Your breakfast is ready and sitting on the table for you, piping hot, just like you like it master Jerich.”13

“Thanks Dicky, is Melie up yet?” asked Jerich rubbing his eyes to get the morning glories out. Walking in step with Odickery to the bathroom, stopping just before the door and looking at him.14

“No, unfortunately, not Jerich, she specifically asked me to wake her up and 10:00:00 o’clock, and I tend to do so.” Odickery slyly awaiting Jerich’s retort.15

And just as he thought, Jerich squalled “Then Why Did You Wake Me Up!!!!” The volume of Jerich’s high pitch girly voice broke a nearby vase and window.16

Odickery grinned and spelled out, “Because, you have WORK to do.”17

“What Work?” Jerich asked. Raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms while pouting.18

Odickery pointed to the vase and window that now lay in shards. “Those, you girly little boy, and you can also help Tessa with the garden after you’re breakfast." Jerich, now knowing that he was beaten, stepped sullenly into the bathroom, and the moment he closed the door, he gave the figure on the other side a flip of the finger. “You see this finger Dicky? I hope you can, I’m doing it as hard as I can.”19

“I’m still here and I heard that Jerich”20

“Fuck….” Jerich whispered 21

“After you’re done with Tessa, you can do what ever you want all day, that sound good?”22

“ Yeah, thanks Dicky, now can I shower with the peace of mind that I’m alone.”23

“Of Course you can master Jerich.” Odickery walked off. “Silly boy’24

“I’m still here, and I heard that Dicky,” Came from the bathroom. Odickery turned around to see a wet head smiling out the door, “Doesn’t irony suck?”25

“Yes it does, Jerich, now please, go back to you’re bath.”26

“I’d love too, oh, can you get me a towel please.”27

“Of course Jerich.” Odickery turned around and began to walk, screaming obscenities in his mind.28

That towel never made it back to Jerich.29

Character development: *Amelie*30

The time 10:00:00 in the Paxton manor. Amelie’s door creeks open slowly as Odickery steps in to awake the sleeping beauty. “Amelie, time to get up, your brunch is piping hot on the table.”31

“Thanks Odie, I’ll be up in a few.”32

“You’re very welcome master Amelie” Odickery said in a hushed tone.33

Odickery walked out of the room. Minutes later, Amelie was up, ready, and willing to do anything. Unfortunately, anything, was just errands within a 20 meter radius of the manor She dragged herself to the dining table, and waiting there was a plate of white rice, a fried egg, 2 pieces of bacon, a toasted piece of whole wheat bread and a cup of orange juice. Drooling at the mouth, she slowly crept to the table and sat down happily. She put her hands together and began to mumble.34

“Oh great almighty lord of the earth and heavens, thank you for the food that I am about to consume, in the name of the father, the hopes and the dreams of the people of Metronome. After the prayer, she dug in to her food, enjoying every bite. She noticed an empty plate on the other end of the table, neatly cleared and not a single crumb, she knows that only Jerich has that kind of OCD. “That brother of mine.” After her brunch she went out to the backyard garden, to tend to her experimental tentacle vines, to find her maid Tessa, and brother Jerich pulling up weeds.35

“What’s up Jerich?”36

“Nothing much, I’m almost done with these weeds, Odickery said he had a gift for me when I was done.”37

“Really? I bet I know what it is”38

“Of course you do, but if you do, don’t ruin it for me, kay?39

A few minutes passed and the garden was blooming with magnificent orchids and dandelions, without the clutter of those unsightly reeds and bugs.40

Jerich gave out a large sigh, “Finally, 'Melie let’s go talk to Dicky now!” He yelled out enthusiastically, as if he expected Amelie to follow.41

“Tch, why not give yourself few minutes to get cleaned up, I mean, look at yourself,” Amelie, not intending to insult, “You’re covered in dirt, and you STILL have some gun lessons with Carolel.”42

“Sheesh, okay, I guess I’ll take a bath.” Jerich said defeated.43

Jerich stood up and ran toward the back door of the manor, “Carolel can wait!” Jerich yelled out at Amelie as he entered the house unscathed.44

“Hmph! I should’ve seen that coming. Uh… Tessa?”45

“Yes Amelie?” Tessa asked while watering her famous Roses.46

“You go ahead take a day to yourself.” Amelie proposed.47

“Thank you master Amelie.”48

Amelie smiled and ran after Jerich. Tessa, who finished snipping her flowers, began to walk up to the manor until she was pistol whipped on the back of the head. She was nearly knocked out cold, she rolled onto her back, vision blurry, looking up and in one last breath, all she saw was a man clad in a blue suit, and the end of the barrel of a gun.49

[The Gift]50

Amelie ran up flights of stairs to get to Odickery’s master bedroom, as she arrived, Jerich was already knocking incoherently over, and over again. Becoming impatient, Jerich began to create catchy tunes with his knocking. “Jerich, you ever think that he might not be in his room.” Amelie exclaimed. She was probably right, because she’s “Always Right” Jerich remembered, she always was the favorite of the family, but now he has friends. He never had any real friends, but soon, he’ll be off to Metronome.51

The Mega city Odickery told him so many stories of. School should be fun. He and Amelie would be going in a few days. He just couldn’t wait. “Hello? Jerich, are you there? Earth to Jerich, come in Jerich.” Jerich was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn’t notice Odickery had already opened the door and he was left standing in the doorway while Amelie was trying to get his attention.52

“Oh, yeah I’m here, how long have I been out?”53

“A whole minute, now get in here, Odi is already getting you’re gift, said it had something to do with Metronome.”54

“Sweet” Jerich said wiping his memories to the back of his head.55

Odickery had worked his way into his study with a rather large book in a backpack that seemed to go perfectly with the book. He brought it with him back to his room, “Oooh I hope Jerich likes his present, he and Amelie are gonna need it if they’re going to be living in Metronome. I wonder if I should give him his fathers gun…. No he’s still too young, but soon enough” he contemplated to himself. Already in his room, Amelie and Jerich were talking it up, unaware that Odi was already back in the room.56

“IM BACK!!!” Odi yelled, loud enough for Jerich and Amelie to practically jump out of their skins. 57

“Sheesh, Odi can’t you knock next time?” Amelie exclaimed.58

Odi retorted, “ When coming into my own room? Ha, I think not. Okay Jerich, com’on, here’s you’re gift. A whole volume of information about possibly everything you might need to know about Metronome.”59

Jerich seemed to like his gift, if a wrinkled nose and confused face are the definition for appreciation. “You don’t like it?” Odi questioned60

“Oh no, I love it, I just thought it would come in a smaller size,” he lied.61

“Oh heavens no, this book belonged to you’re father, and he believed that everything deserves to be with the rest of it’s kind.”62

Jerich’s appreciation for it began to skyrocket, the first time he ever saw anything that belonged to his Father, or Mother for that matter. They died when he was a young boy, for anonymous reasons. The reason for that is because no one knew EXACTLY how they died. They always thought of a car accident, but that's quite unlikely. "Hey! What is that suppose to mean?"63

"What?"64

"'With the rest of it's kind.' Does that mean there's more?"65

"Oh you read me like a book Jerich. Of course there is more! In fact, I think you'll like this one even better than that dusty old book."66

"I think i'll like anything better than this 'Bible of Metronome!'" Jerich threw his hands in the air, dropping his fathers book on the red shag carpeting.67

"So you don't like it?" Odickery asked, a bit appauled by Jerich's outburst.68

"I never sa-"69

"Oh nevermind. Haha, To be quite honest, I was more shocked when you said you liked it. But even if you don't like, you can expect that thing in your backpack during school." Odi said while punching his code on a number panel just a little ways off. Jerich and Amelie didn't seem to notice. 70

"So Odi, what's this extra gift my father left behind Jerich eh?" 71

"Oh, you'll be quite surprised when you see-" Odickery was violently cut off by a gasp that threw him to the ground. Something was amiss. There was a smell in the room, a smell that only a man trained to notice small things.72

"Odi! What's the matter!?" Amelie ran to his side and helped him onto his knees. While Jerich stole out his 53. Magnum and held it at the ready.73

"The window.." He gasped again, seeming to be fighting for oxygen. Amelie seemed to be feeling the same way.74

"What about it?" Amelie looked toward the large glass window that was the only source of natural light in the room, turning back to Odi, "There's nothing there..." It was her turn to struggle for air.75

"Bre..Break..Break it!" Odickery screamed before he collapsed onto the floor, unconscious.76

"'Break it'?" Amelie repeated. She grabbed at her throat, and knelt over, breathing heavily. Jerich rushed over to her side, "You heard him. Do it."77

Jerich nodded and aimed his weapon at the window. Or at least tried. His vision was blurry, and he fired a miss shot into the red leather armchair nearby directly in front of him. Quickly regaining his sights, he fired. BANG! BANG! BANG!78

The glass shattered in a marvelous display of color. It was always Odikery's sick pleasure to decorate the house with church-esque stained windows. Like roses, the small fragments of sand and iron fell to the glass below. Amelie took in a huge breath, expanding his rib cage to as much as her diaphragm would allow. Jerich fell onto his back, and Amelie just sat there.79

"What in the fucking hell was that?"80

"I don't know...apparently Odi knew, but he's not with us right now."81

"Somethings wrong."82

"Well no shit Sherlock? Nearly suffocating is definitely nothing to worry about."83

"Right. Well what now? You're always the one with the brains."84

"Ehh, I guess we should find a way to wake Odi up. Find out what just nearly killed us."85

"Of course. Here, get his legs." 86

Jerich stood up, wobbling a bit before walking over to Odickery, picking him up under the arm pits. But before Amelie could advance on the two, the door to the room coolly swung open slowly. "Oh...I don't think that'll be necessary Jerich."

Actually, I love it! I even had my 16 yr.old and then my 11 yr. old read it and they both really liked it as well. You have done a wonderful job at keeping your audience entertained and wanting more.
The only thing I could find that you could change is your reference to Amelie as Master.
I believe the female master of the house would be refered to as mistress of the house ( or manor rather). Oh yeah and one nore little nit picky thing, the hundred ox's should be oxen, a hundred oxen.
Overall this is an excellent piece of work!
Please do continue, I am sure my children as well as myself would love to know what happened to the maid and why, among th emany other mysteries!
    Thanx for the great story!
