Kayli woke up feeling warm and fuzzy, which was odd. She remembered laughing with Caleb the night before and then they must have fallen asleep in each others arms. Listening to his slow, deep breathing of her buddy, she sat and listened to the birds singing.

Caleb stirred. Kayli's attitude must have changed overnight, impossible as it may seem, he thought.

"G'morning," he mumbled.

Kayli suddenly bolted up from his lap and darted over to the window. With a huge sigh she dashed into Caleb's room and began showering and putting on new clothes. Caleb, however, stood up calmly and peered outside. He held his breath as Kayli had done and walked over to the front door.

"Hello, Jay." Caleb said with a drop of dislike in his voice.

"Morning," Jay replied. "I believe you have the company of a woman and a small child. I didn't know you got married when I was away."

Caleb dismissed the thought of strangling Jay. He was a tall, handsome man who was a friend of Kayli's for a long time. Jay had short black hair and pale orange eyes that resembled a spirit from another world. Kayli and Jay were always close friends, and Caleb only wanted her to know that he wasn't right in the mind. Jay had always valued control over love and the power of kindness. He was the sort of person who meant no good at all.

"Jay!" Kayli's laughter sounded from behind Caleb.

Pushing Caleb out of the way, Jay hugged Kayli with a smirk of satisfaction on his face.

"Hello, Kayli, my dear! Why are you staying in this old moldy hut?" Jay smiled.

"Well," she replied, lowering her voice. "I'm only here because the Council required a vision from Jess."

Jay seemed intrigued, so Kayli continued, "Jess saw Polly and Arthur murdered, and their young daughter Grace was the cause. When the Council heard of this, they told Caleb and I to go to Arthur's house on the night of the next full moon and retrieve Grace after she killed her parents."

"And she holds no record of that event?" Jay questioned.

"None," interjected Caleb. "She's too young to remember what she did."

"Well then," Jay announced proudly. "I suppose I'll come on in and greet this young Grace?"

Grace was sitting on the couch in fresh clothes, combing her almost curly light brown hair. She looked up and smiled at Kayli and Caleb, but shot a look of distrust at Jay.

"Hah, Gracie!" Jay cried, enveloping Grace in a hug. "How wonderful it is to see you!"

"You're only impressing Kayli." Grace muttered in a voice only Jay could hear.

"Why yes, of course, because she will be my wife." Jay mumbled back.

Caleb hugged Kayli, trapping her arms to his chest. Lowering his head to her ear, Caleb whispered words without endearment to his friend. "If you know what's best for you, I suggest you stay away from him."

Kayli struggled to move from Caleb's embrace but shot her head backwards instead, a sinister glare in her eyes. "If you know what's best for you, you'll stay away from me and Jay!"

Releasing Kayli, he walked out the front door.

"So!" Jay shouted, kissing Kalyi on her cheek. "What's for breakfast?"
