Rand & Galdinol - Chapter 2

Even though Rand sprinted home, he was still five minutes late.

"Rand Alan Dradon where have you been!" yelled his mother in an somewhat angry, somewhat concerned voice.

"You know that its dangerous out there after dark. Especially in the forest!" continued his mom.

"Don't worry mother! I wasn't in the forest!" lied Rand, hoping she couldn't see through it.

"I was just over the hill there playing in the ruined fort. We did agree that its safe to play there, remember?"

His mother gave him a searching glance and then her eyes softened a bit and the beginnings of a smile played on her lips.

"Allright, but don't let it happen again! Terial is a dangerous land now."

Terial, the land in which Rand and his mother have lived all his life, was currently getting darker and darker. The Granians, the people who lived in the Grania Forest, were currently waging war with all Terians, saying that they were taking all of the resources and land, and that the Granian leader would make a better leader then the Terians King Hurn.

Once, long before the war, Terial was a beautiful country. It once was full of elves, dwarves, fairies, and many other creatures. Since the Granian people had came out of the forest to fight, some 20 years earlier, no one had seen an elf. The fairies were rare to spy, and the Dwarves, though hiding, were still in contact with the humans. This means that Rand was the first person to make contact with an Elf in 20 years at least.

"Mom, im gonna go to bed early tonight. My stomach feels a little sour." Rand said, lying for the second time tonight.

"Allright hun, get feeling better! goodnight!" said his mother without looking up from her sewing.

When Rand got into his room he looked into his mirror. Standing at 5'9" he was average height for his age. His eyes were a bright green, his hair a dark brown. His bangs hung over his eyes at times, and his hair had a slight wave to it. Rand looked and compared. He looked thicker and more solid then the elf had, though he had no doubt the elf was much stronger, much tougher then him.

His legs were lean, well toned from all the years of running around and working on the things that needed done at his and his mothers solitary cottage. But he still had no doubt the elf was faster then him.

The one major difference that he noticed was that his ears weren't shaped to a point like the elfs. He also noticed that though his eyes were striking, they did not seem to look straight through you like the elf's did.

Rand, after making his inspection, found that he actually was feeling tired. His eyes were droopy, and he layed down in his bed fully clothed. He closed his eyes and instantly dropped off to sleep.
