Order of the Dragons Chapter 2

Wakes up to the liud and irritating buzzing of his alarm clock. He sits up in bed and groans. Pushing the button a few times, the sound hadn't stopped so he paused a moment and thought to himself," I wonder if i should do what everyone does in the movies when they wake up...". Dai picks up his alarm clock and throws it into the far wall. "well what do ya know? It worked. Who says Hollywood movies are all fake?" he throws off the puffy blanket and puts his feet on the ground. Dai stands up and goes downstairs into the lobby of the hotel. Before turning in his key, he stops into a local tavern to get a bite to eat. Still half asleep, he wakes himself up by somehow cutting himself with a knife. "Ouch! sheesh....maybe i should have went to bed earlier last night." Finishing his food, he turns in his key to leave. "here's the key for my room, i won't be needing it any more." he turns around, but quickly turns back the way he was facing. "Oh and by the way, do you have a bandage? i kinda cut myself a little with the breakfast knife." Dai takes the bandage and walks out the main door and down the street. Walking down a dry and dusty dirt road that seemed like it went on forever, he finally comes to a large forested area," i wonder...I was exiled from the order, but it feels like I wasn't completely separated from my gift..." Dai looks down then takes off the silver chain that hung around his neck and under his shirt. He tosses it up into the air, clean silver shining in the bright morning sun, he says loudly and clearly, " Kaze!" For those unfamiliar with the language, that is japanese for wind. The black jewl that rested within the metal shaped as a dragons claw, began to glow a very dark purple. Normally, those with the gift of wind as their natural element had clear crystals, but Dai was different. Slowly, his bones began to expand and contract in size, causing him natural discomfort. People who choose not to use their powers and people who first discover their powers have discomfort due to the inactiveness or newly found power to shapeshift. As his bones shifted, so did his body structure; his muscles took a different, exotic shape and began to tear. This was normal for inactive users and new users. Shape shifting by will caused discomfort, but they either ignored it, or it went away. His body became covered in silver and black scales that glinted in the light. It gave him an appearance as if he came out of the water, or he was wearing Mithryl, a powerful armor made from the durable scales of dragons. After about a minute or so of enduring the discomfort of shapeshifting, it seemed as though a dark cloud swirled around him; he turned into the shape of a snake-like dragon, then to a wvern dragon, then into a western dragon, then finally, back to the wyvern, where his form remained unchanged for now. Normally dragons with black crystals were of the decent of ancient black dragons. Ones with dark blue were from the underwater world of sea monsters and dragons that took after types of snake-like fish such as Eel. Dragons with deep crimson crystals came from the Great Fire Pits or Great Lava Mountains of Japan. Those with the cloudy gray or dark brown crystals were said to harbor the defense so powerful it seemed as though it was the defense of ten thousand men;these were the dragons from the deity of creation, the diety said to have created the vast landforms of the earth and the race of mankind. Last but not least, there was the black dragon, a dragon full of chaos that seemed to be reincarnated every time it was slain; a dragon that harbored the hatred of the slain dragons, and the additional hatred it gained over the thousands of years of existence. Deep in thought, dai found himself laying on the ground sprawled out. He was thinking of his decent and of the trait in his bloodline so much, that he didn't even notice that he may have fallen about fifteen feet or so down to the ground. It was like he was hypnotised, but not another soul was in sight. "I should just continue tomorrow" he says with a disgusted tone. Changing back into his human form, he reluctantly endures more of the discomfort of his muscles tearing and his bones grinding; when it's over he opens his eyes again and touched his feet on the ground, catching the silver chain connected to him that allowed him to change his form from human to dragon and back. He sits down to think some more before he is ever so rudely interrupted by a man behind him. He sounded very close, so he turned around and nearly fell backwards; he was staring into a pair of cold brown eyes even though the man's voice was soft and warm, "Ah, i see you have the gift of the five dragons. You can fly, so you must be a dragon of the wind. Usually they are seen with clear crystals that reflect wisdom and power, kindness and inner peace. However, you have a jet black crystal...why is that if i may ask?" Dai pauses to think about what to say next. "Well, i guess it's because i'm extremely powerful...er, well i WAS extremely powerful once." dai looks up into the lush green leaves of the trees above and gets lost in thought once more, barely paying attention to what the man had said in reply. "If you were once powerful, what makes you less powerful today? Is it the build of the body that counts? No. It is the build of the brain that counts; from great wisdom comes great power. One cannot loose obtained wisdom no matter how many years have passed. As i have said, from great wisdom comes great power. You said you were once very powerful, and in order to get that power, you needed to obtain as much information or any type of intelligence to get that power, and since you obtained that wisdom, you cannot loose that or the power that you were granted from the wisdom; so, there should be no reason you can be less powerful tomorrow than you are today, the key is practice. Come, we shall discuss this more at a later time, night is falling, come with me." Dai follows half trusting this guy and half wondering what will happen next. They walked down the windy dirt road for what seemed like hours, but the time spent traveling only added up to less than an hour. They soon arived at a large house with a large ,expensive wooden door, and a balcony. Dai looked over the house for a while noticing that it had been roughened by age before being beckoned into the house. As soon as he had stepped foot inside the house, he was struck by awe, amazement, surprize and hapiness all at the same time. This place seemed so familiar as well as unfamiliar. Where hads he seen this vast mansion before? Walking through town? No. Walking through the city? No. The questions that raced through his ind put a puzzled look on his blank face before he realized that the house was the one in his dreams. The man, older than him, but still young spoke in fluent japanese which his mind had automatically tranzlated into english. What the man had said was go up stairs, and the last door on the right was his; the room with the balcony. Somehow, some way, this was HIS house. How he came into the house he could not remember, but as he got lost in thought yet again, he had walked right into the door to his room. Snapping right out of the apparent trance, he opens the door and gets cut by a huge gust of icy wind. The elaborate doors leading to the balcony had all five of the ancient dragons etched into the wood of the door. The handles were shaped like normal chinese dragons. He wlaks over to the door, shivers then closes them and slides the sliky curtains infront of the glass. Leaving the hotel, he was klucky he ddin't forget his things, so he threw his sachel on the giant bed and lay down. He picks his brings his bag to himself from the foot of the bed and rummages through it for a while before dropping the silver chain into a pocket. He pulls out a black leather book and sets it on the night table. "Tomorrow, i'll have plenty of time ot think in peace and read through that book, so i'd better get to sleep" he thinks to himself, before shutting off the light next to him and drifting into a deep sleep.
