Bess
I was a different person three weeks ago. I was cynical and sarcastic, I laughed at chick flicks, and rolled my eyes at fairy-tale tabloids, but that was three weeks ago. It’s amazing how much a summer can roll you from bits and pieces of necessary ingredients into something you can stand back and think “Wow, it’s beautiful”. I thought that it would hurt to say out loud, that I was in a different dimension, one my best friends had been in, even though it felt like my own world. Of course, in a world so perfect, someone else has to be there to share it with you. My second half was half a state away, getting ready for his senior year, band practice, work at the Apple Bee’s, and finding my face on the phone.
It had been awhile since I had hung out with these girls. We grew up together, our houses were connected through the underground passage way of imagination and giddy minds of the six-year-old. Fiona, Johanna, and I were, unfortunately, camping. Usually I don’t mind camping, but with my family (ahem, my little brother) it isn’t as fun. Which is why, thank the Lord, these two came along. We were talking on the dock that stretched it’s wooden body out to the lake, they were telling summer tails, as if the stars couldn’t quite hear them. Finally one of them asked about the rumor, had Bess Bover, that crazy band geek finally found a match?! My mouth felt so different when I talked about him, lifting my heart and changed the beats into wonderful pounding words.
