As a little girl, I was always enchanted by the concept of a charm bracelet. The idea of a charm bracelet is to show the world who you are, what is important to you, and some of your fondest memories, all on something small enough to hold in the palm of your hand. I have always wanted a charm bracelet, to represent myself over the years with my own charms, so I would like to tell you what some of those charms would be.2
First and foremost, I would have a music note, because throughout my life, there has always been some aspect of my life having to do with music. I have been a dancer, been in musicals, and a member of the Cranbrook Girls' Bugle Band.3
Secondly, I would have a heart charm. This is not a surprise, considering my last name is Hart, and I am a sappy, emotional hopeless romantic. I cry in happy things and in sad things.4
Thirdly, I would have a mirror. Not because I'm vain and like to look at myself, but because I like to reflect back on my life and the memories I have made. I can spend hours upon hours looking at old yearbooks, re-reading things my friends have written, and as strange as it might sound, I'm already looking forward to my high school reunion.5
My charm braclet would not be complete without a quill charm, as quills represent writing, which is my passion. I have written faithfully in a journal for five years and I frequently write poetry. Whatever I do after high school, I know that writing will stay a very big part of my life.6
Last, but definitely not least, I would have a moon charm, as ALL my friends know, I am a night owl. My mind is sharpest at two or three in the morning, so I often get a lot more done, and have more creativity. When the sky is full of stars, and is turning to a light shade of blue and you're all alone staring out your window, it is an amazing time to just sit and listen to the silence. I enjoy doing my writing at this time, in fact, this speech was written a little past my bedtime on a school night.7
I would wear this bracelet with pride, and anyone who took a close look at it would get a great idea of who I am, what is important to me, and some of my fondest memories. I could show them as I have shown you tonight that every charm has its own story to tell, and together, they make a perfect representation of the person wearing it.8
Author notes
This was my speech for the pageant I was in back in June. I'm not 100% sure if this is word for word, because I did it by memory. However, I just watched the tape a couple days ago, so it should be fresh in my memory. There were a few sentences that kind of changed live, but this is how I wrote it.
I didn't win the pageant, or win the speech award, but it was still a fun experience, and I heard from one of the toastmasters (The people who helped with our speeches) that my speech was in the top 3 for the speech award, and I've heard from other people that they thought I was going to win the pageant.
Definitely six very fun months...
About the date that is up there as when I wrote it. I'm not quite 100% sure when I finally finished revising it, so I just put the date that it made its debut at the dessert auction, although I know it was fully revised a couple weeks before that

Hey Kayla, I see that I've already stopped by and left my thoughts, but I came to read again, so I will again leave behind my mark.
Not that my thoughts have changed- this is still a great speech, and in fact, I think I enjoyed it this time through even more!!
But anyways, I just remembered that 'movie marathon' night we were gonna have!!
We should really do that sometime. You have my number, so just give me a call whenever you're available.
I'm looking forward to it!

Hey you, I know your name is Kayla, not Kyla, but the 'a' key stuck or I didn't hit it hard enough or something, and as soon as I re-read my comment I went back and corrected it...so there...lol

lol, first of all, my name isn't Kyla
secondly, I know I would add more, believe me, I had a first draft of a HUGE list of charms, but there was a time limit...it had to be between 2 and 3 minutes, so I had to cut it down to the 5 main ones, which is why I said
"I would like to tell you what some of those charms would be"
Thanks for the comment Dee

A charmed life, indeed, Kayla
Your choice of charms is interesting, and I have no doubt that they would represent you, your life. Chances are, you'll be wanting to add more as the years go by. There's so many things in life to be thankful for, be aware of, to take pride in. The ones you write about are only the beginning
A beautiful speech, I wish I could have been there to hear you present it.
love and

Life is a charm bracelet. Interesting idea. No clue what I'd have on mine...
Great speech. I hate speeches, can't write them worth beans. Too bad you didn't win the pageant.

Well Christine, if you have a DVD player, you CAN hear me do my speech
As for the guidelines and stuff, I'll tell you at band, I just thought I'd reply and let you know that I can show you that speech if you have a dvd player
And that's great that you will definitely be going in. You'll love it, and it'll be so good for you

Awww!!
I wish I could've been there to see you. This is a wonderful speech, and I congratulate you on your praise with it, which was all totally deserved.
This really shows who you are, what you stand for, and all those kinds of things and you did it in a unique fashion, too!!
If you could, could you let me know what you had to write your speech about and around, like the rules and guidelines and stuff? I'd just like to get an idea of what I'll have to be doing in a few years, right?!
Gosh, you always talk about sweethearts and it sounds like such a great experience, there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be going Kayla, no question.
You'll have to tell me some stuff though, just to "prepare me", you know...
Anyways, great great speech, I would've loved to be there to hear you speak it out, that would have been awesome!!

If you didn't win with this, I'd love to hear the speech that DID...I can't imagine how incredible it would have to be to beat this! I used to be in pageants too, so I know how hard it can be to write these things...it's not all "I want to solve world hunger and create peace on earth" like a lot of people think. I never came up with anything this brilliant or creative, so now I'm kicking myself! You've definitely inspired me!
XOXOXO,

Beautiful speech, Kayla. You are such a deep person. I would never have looked this deeply into a charm bracelet when I was your age, or now for that matter.
Great job. I wish I could have heard you deliver this.
