After floating in on driftwood over the blasted coral. Let's just say that "Razor sharp" has a new meaning when you have to climb onto an island whilst semi-conscious and bobbing on account of clinging to driftwood.
Fortunately, I appear to have made my way across a safe patch. I can see that a few fish weren't so lucky. They're all bloated and just... eww. I think it must be poisonous.
Fortunately, it looks like someone else has been here before. I don't hold so much hope though. They left behind a dinghy, a raft of some sort, a whole load of wire. Odd! Anyway.
There's a first aid kit but it may all be in Russian. That said, it's so weathered, I doubt it matters.
I've recovered a fair amount. And one of those crazy Swiss army knives!
Yummy.
Ok. I've found a tree with sizeable leaves, and fasioned it into a crude scoop. Used this to clean my legs from the coral. I will not be swimming any time soon! Salt water is good. But no thanks! Stings like a beast. I've bandaged them up though. On that note of stinging, I think I saw a wasps nest earlier. Must mean there's sweet flowers nearby. And with sweet flowers, comes sweet fruit!
Urgh. I spent a whole day on that wood and all I get in return is this mangy island and an empty stomach.
I've propped the raft up against a couple of trees and tied a length of the wire between those trees. My clothes are currently drying there.
I daren't try my luck in the forest quite yet though. My legs won't be up to much of a beating, and I don't think I'd stand up to anything poisonous without pants on.
Well, the sun's a little lower now.
Clothes are... Dry. And salty. Yum.
Sounds like ham. Except made from plastic and cotton.
They're back on, and slightly stiff. I've wandered around a little and found a coconut tree, lizards, frogs looking dangerously... bright. so no thanks on them.
I've brought the coconut back to camp. I took some washed up coral to crack open the coconut.
I intend to use the shell to dig near the coconut tree. I expect to find ground water for when I've no coconuts left.
I know that coconuts are good for sustenance, so I should just about be OK for a while after eating one.
The raft should make fair shelter for the night.
Tomorrow I may search for larger pieces of driftwood, fallen branches, the fruit the wasps are living off and dig that hole.
I'm hoping to use driftwood as stakes, and branches to fashion a crude wall. Doesn't look like it'll get too cold at night, and as there aren't any pools of fresh water, rain is doubtable.
The variety of wildlife is fairly small, and large animals wouldn't survive long.
Whilst this means that anything poisonous isn't going to kill me, it means there's gonna be poisonous things.
If there's nothing larger than the lizards, they oughtn't be poisonous either.
Time for bed.
