Bayne

Kayla was just piling up the final files of her document and was ready to call it a night when her secretary Lisa knocked and popped her head through the doorway.

"Um Miss Cortez, its almost midnight do you mind if I leave now?"

"Um sure Lisa, I'm about to go anyway.” Kayla said without lifting her head from the desk.

Kayla had explained to Lisa before offering her the job that she tends to work very late and she usually keeps her personal assistant with her.

Lisa had accepted the job saying she was pretty desperate anyway.

In a law firm like this Kayla couldn't even afford to be a slacker. She was applying to make partner, which her made put in everything she had because no woman had ever made partner in that law firm before. But Kayla was one determined lawyer.

Minutes after Lisa left, Kayla packed up her things and left the building. She headed home without having to use her car because her apartment was fortunately close-by.

Minutes away from home, Kayla's phone rang, and it took her a couple of seconds to dig for it in her huge purse before she began a heated conversation with her mother who was on the other end.

"Listen Mom, You know how it is out here in the city. I’m a very busy woman I can't visit you every f*cking week for Christ’s sake!” Kayla yelled into her phone as she started to cross the road, completely oblivious to the vehicle that was just miles away from her.

"I'm using that tone with you cuz it's past f*cking midnight and you're nagging me!", Kayla snapped, then her attention was caught by a pair of head lights glaring right her. Frozen in fear and shock, she was blinded by the glaring headlights and deafened by the honking and the screeching sound of the vehicle.

The vehicle was just seconds away from her and she stood there in frozen in fear, unable to let out a scream when she felt herself being roughly jerked away from the road. It happened all so fast.

Kayla opened her eyes to find herself by the side of the road clinging to someone. Someone really big, with his arms round her. He let her go and she turned towards the road. "My phone! My purse!” She hissed as she looked sorrowfully at the dismantled pieces of what was left of her phone and gigantic purse.

"Sorry both gone now, But that'll be that last thing I'd worry about, you almost lost your life back there.", said the voice behind her and for the first time she took full notice of her rescuer. She turned to study his interesting appearance. His entire outfit was black with a black long trench coat that flowed behind him like a cape.

He had a really tall frame and towered Kayla by a couple of inches, his face was one of the last things she noticed. She looked up and saw that he had jet-black hair that fell over his face and down to his shoulders.

She wondered if men still wore their hair like that. The only men she saw with hair that long were the ones on the cover of those cheesy romantic novels and they were usually clinging to some starry-eyed half naked woman with bosoms almost popping out of whatever skimpy outfit she was wearing.

But what really struck her were his eyes. They looked like clear green pools of water with beautiful jet-black orbs that were his pupils. They left her breathless.

"You rescued me back there. I suppose I owe you one.” She laughed nervously.

"Just try to be more careful.” He said. His face was expressionless even his eyes showed nothing. "You could have gotten killed back there."

"Uh right.” Kayla said, he started to walked away. “Thanks again!” She called after him

Not wanting to figure out the stranger’s weird look and behaviour, she headed home and finally arrived at her apartment feeling so stressed and spooked out, she decided she deserved a warm soothing bath.

She ran the water and lowered her self into the warm, welcoming, steaming tub. She let out a huge sigh and relaxed but as she did so the handsome stranger's phenomenal eyes crawled into her mind.

She didn't think she had ever seen eyes like those, so beautiful with such a touching shade of green, almost as if she could see right through them and yet she could see absolutely nothing. They were so expressionless.

She ran her hand down the torso of her wet soaking body as she pictured the way his jet-black hair fell wildly over his face.

All of a sudden, a wave of thunder clapped loudly across the sky startling Kayla and bringing her back to reality as she shook violently in the tub.

She sighed as she eased herself out of the tub wrapping her towel round her as she walked over to the mirror. She studied her reflection as she pulled the pins out the tight neat bun on top of her head and watched as her really dark curls fell wildly to her chest.

She got into her nightgown and shook out her hair. Sleeping with a bun on her head would be most uncomfortable so the only time she ever let her hair down was when she was going to sleep.

She thought of the stranger again, but not for long.

Due to how exhausted she felt drifted off to sleep quite shortly.

The next day at work was nothing to write home about. She was stressed out and tired and not to mention, overloaded with all sorts of files, documents and cases for the day. She had sent Lisa to get her so many cups of coffee the secretary started giving her looks of concern.

When it was close too 9pm, Lisa had suggested that Kayla took it easy and headed home for the day. Knowing Lisa, Kayla had figured the secretary had gathered up all the courage in her to say this and kindly dismissed her saying she'll be fine.

When Kayla finally decided to leave, it was a couple of minutes to midnight and it was raining cats and dogs.

With her new leather bag and her coat over her head. She ran home frantically with her improvisations for an umbrella not doing a very good job of shielding her from the rain.

She felt her self gradually being soaked as she ran home as fast as she could. She stopped for a second when she saw two people up front arguing and shoving each other. They were guys and they looked dangerous. Real dangerous.

“Just run past them.” She said to herself. “They won’t even notice you.”

She headed towards them, running as fast as she could, hoping to just breeze past them without them noticing her. With her heart beating hard against her chest she made a go for it.

“Hey mamasita wait up!” she heard them call behind her, right after she made it past them.

“Oh no God no!” She whispered to herself.

“Hey babe what’s the rush!” The other one called behind her. Her heart was beating ever so loudly now, she was sure she would’ve been able to hear it if it wasn’t for the drowning sound of the raindrops beating against the pavement.

Before she knew it, the two terrors had caught up with her and were standing right in front of her now blocking her path.

“Didn’t you hear us calling!” One of them smirked gravely at her; his face was covered in all sorts of piercing. He had platinum blonde hair that glued to his wet soaked face and the other on had dark hair with a hideous scar across his cheek. They looked terrifying and the rain made them look more like ogres.

“Please.” Kayla begged, “I’ll give you anything you want j-just let me go!”

“Oh we’ll get what we want all right.” Said the blonde one eyeing her hungrily and savagely, “Just don’t know about letting you go.”

“Please” Kayla begged, tears streaming down her eyes probably caused by the terrifying look the blonde ogre had given her.

“Shut up and get over here!” The dark haired ogre said as he shoved her roughly against the wall. She moaned tearfully as her head banged against it.

“I’m gonna give it to her good.” said the blond one. Kayla slumped against the wall now closing her eyes in terror, fear and grief as the rain violently beat upon her. Only heaven knew what these two terrors were going to do to her.

Closing her eyes and sobbing she thought she heard a sharp metal click as if one of them had drawn out a blade or worse… a gun…

Kayla started to consider many horrid brutal ways her life could end when she heard a rough hoarse voice say “That’s absolutely no way to treat a lady. I suggest you two punks get lost before you regret it.”

Kayla’s eye opened sharply at the familiarity of the voice. It was he! The stranger from the day before come to save her once again!

Kayla had never been happier to see someone.

“Hey tall, dark and dorky!” one of them snorted at him. “Trying to save your little lady friend here?”

“Hehe You better f*ck off before that ‘pretty face’ of yours gets all busted up.” The other one hissed.

“Last chance punks..”

“Or what mother-f*cker?”

Kayla saw the dark haired one charge at the stranger with his knife and she buried her hands in head.

Buried in her own darkness, all she could here where the shuffling of feet, a couple of yelps and a whole bunch of swear words.

“You okay?” She heard the voice say and her head slowly emerged from her hands.

She looked up at him towering over her. His damp dark hair falling over his dripping face.

A small humourless smirk spread across his expressionless face “You again…” and

despite the fact that she was still shaken up by what just happened the managed to glare at him.

“You sure have a way of getting into trouble, what else I’m I gonna have to save you from?” He said taking her hand and helping her up. That was it.

“Look I didn’t ask for your help okay!” She snatched her hand from him “ you could have just walked on. No one asked you to stop and help me!”.

He raised an eyebrow.

“I’m sorry.” She calmed down “Its just… I almost saw my whole life flash before my eyes back there. I don’t need this.”

“You’re right. It was uncalled for. I apologize.”

“It’s okay and thanks for saving me.” She laughed nervously “again.”

This time his eyes squinted and Kayla could have sworn she saw the slightest hint of amusement on his face.

“Well try and stay out of trouble. I must… Aaaah!” He slouched as he let out a loud cry of pain as his hand went to left his shoulder.

Kayla’s eyes went there and she saw the black material he wore inside his coat had a cut and had a dark fresh stain slowly spreading around it.

“Oh my gosh y-you’re hurt! You’re bleeding!” Kayla said.

“It’s okay I’ll be fine.” The stranger said making an attempt to stand up straight only to slouch again letting out another yelp of pain.

“Oh my gosh you can barely walk! You should come with me.” She went over to him putting his right arm round her shoulder trying to support his heavy frame trying to ignore they way his hard body felt against hers.

“No. Really...” He started to protest.

“Oh will you stop complaining? you did save my life. It’s the least I could do!” And with this Kayla helped the soaked handsome stranger to her place.

Kayla finally arrived home with the stranger after a walk that seemed like an eternity. She could ignore what she felt as his hard body leaned against hers’ while rain beat upon them soaking them both. Her apartment had very poor lighting at night the place was almost dark. She’d been procrastinating when she’d have it fixed now she wished she hadn’t.

“There you go.” Kayla said as she lowered him onto the couch. “Let’s have a look at this”, she said motioning for him to take off shirt as she stooped down to him. He did so and she saw a huge fresh cut deep and bloody, splattered across his chest.

“Oh my gosh, what did those *bunny*s do to you! You know, you might need to see a doctor.”

“No!” He said sharply.

She gave him a puzzled look.

“I don’t like hospitals.”

“Ok…” She said, still giving him a puzzled look, “Will you at least let me clean it up?”

He nodded.

“I’ll be back.” She left for the bathroom. She opened her cabinet and brought out a bottle of ointment and put some in hot water with a sponge soaked in it.

She came back out with a bowl and sponge in her hand.

“Ok I’m just going to clean it with this”, She said stooping down to him again. He leaned forward and she then noticed the brooding features of his chest, his stomach, his arms even with the ghastly cut across his chest it looked almost perfectly sculpted. His entire torso was breath taking. She swallowed hard.

“It will really sting but works pretty fast.” She said as she placed it on his wound. To her surprise he didn’t even flinch. She traced the sponged across his chest and watched as drops of liquid slowly traced down his already moist chest as she squeezed it.

She felt her breathing becoming shorter and she hoped to God that he didn’t notice.

She dipped the sponge in the bowl of water again squeezed it and placed it on his chest watching rise and fall under her touch.

This was almost torture. She dared to steal a look up at him. He caught her eye and smiled a little and she quickly looked away.

“So”, she started, wanting to break the heated her silence between them. “Is it ok for me to ask for your name?”

“What’s it to you?”

She looked up at him. The question sounded cold, but his face expression wasn’t cold at all. Instead, he looked expectantly at her, waiting for an answer.

“Well, you did save my life.”, Then she added “twice.”

“True.”

“And here you are sitting on ‘my’ couch in ‘my’ apartment with ‘me’ cleaning your wound…”

“The wound, which I acquired while trying to save your life.”

She gave a frustrated sigh. She wanted to tell him what she though about him.

That he was resentful, strong-headed and just downright difficult, but instead she said, “Forget it.” and continued cleaning his wound as a short awkward silence came between them.

“Its Bayne.” He murmured.

She looked up at him. “What?”

“You can call me Bayne.”

“Oh.” She nodded, though the first question that came to her mind was ‘What kind of name is “Bayne”’

“I’m Kayla.” She smiled politely. He nodded though a thoughtful look spread across his face.

“I’m done.” She stood up. “Let me get out of this wet clothes and get you a blanket or towel or something.”

She walked away and came back with a blanket and towel with her hand. She was in her nightgown and her dark hair was flowing down as she stood there under the dim light. Bayne caught one look at her and literally froze.

She looked at him and then blushed deeply as his green gaze became longing, heated then lustful.

“Bianca…” he muttered under his breath.

“W-what?”

He shook his head and then placed his hand on his forehead. “I’m sorry”.

He looked away. “Something just crossed my mind. Its totally irrelevant.”

“Ok…” She said obviously confused. “Here’s your towel and your blanket.”

“Thank you.” He took it still looking away obviously avoiding to look at her.

“Um you’re welcome.” She said sheepishly. “I’m going to bed now, you can sleep on the couch. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.” He said walking away with his hand going to his forehead again.

She went into her own room and eased herself into bed. She laid back and all she could think of was the person in the next room. The way he looked at her when she changed into her nightgown. That hungry green gaze made her hot all over.

At first the only look he gave her were cold, expressionless ones and then all of a sudden his eyes were filled with lust.

She had to admit, Bayne was pretty strange and what was with that name he called her? Bianca. Who the hell was Bianca?

She started to consider being scared but instead she started to feel hot all over. As if the heat she felt from before while cleaning his wound and the heat she felt from his hungry gaze now filled her entire room.

She began to stroke her self through her cotton nightgown. She felt so hot her skin began to grow moist. She pulled the covers off but that didn’t help. If anything, it made things worse. She now felt completely exposed to the heat circulating the room.

She stood from the bed and went to windows drawing back the curtains and cold wind rushed into the room. She sighed in relief and went back to bed. As she lay on her bed,

The cool wind brushed against the hotness of her skin sending a rippling sensation through her. She moaned lightly and closed her eyes.

As she drifted away, she found herself lying on the bed with someone on top of her breathing against her. His jet-black hair was falling over her. Bayne.

She felt his fingers tracing over her body though the soft cotton material, over her neck, her breasts, her belly, her thighs, his touch seemed so familiar…

She sat up abruptly in her bed breathing heavily her body now extremely moist. “What the f*ck was that?” she thought to herself.

She went into the bathroom and immersed her face in cold water and went back to bed not catching much sleep due the confusion that settled in her mind.

Kayla could barely concentrate at work the next day. The thought of Bayne and the weird vision she had kept drifting into her mind. He had left before she woke up. He didn’t even wait to say good-bye. She told herself she didn’t care. Sure her sex life was sh*tty but it wasn’t a good enough excuse to have visions about f*cking the next stranger that comes into her life. But that vision…

It seemed so real, and so familiar which was weird, really weird. She could almost recall his touch, running smoothly over her body…

Her thoughts were interrupted the ringing of her phone. It was her mum again. The conversation was no pleasant than the last one. In fact it was even worse. She and her mum never got along. In fact she never got along with her family and enjoyed being away from them. That sounded low and cold but she had tried so many ways to get along with them, but they never really ‘got’ her and sometimes she felt like she just didn’t fit in.

The weekend finally arrived. It was a Sunday windy night and expectations of rain seeped through the air. Kayla was on the couch of her living room working on her laptop when she heard a frantic knock on her door.

Putting the laptop aside, she went over to open it and found the tall frame of Bayne leaning with on hand against her doorframe. He was breathing hard and roughly pushed past her and lowered himself on her couch.

“Hey! ” Kayla exclaimed. “What are you doing here?” She shut the door and went towards him.

“I’m in some kind of trouble” He stopped and eyed her outfit.

She was in a tank top and a pair of tight shorts and dark curls were held in a loose ponytail. She only dared to look like this on weekends when she was in her apartment by herself.

He eyed her just a little too long and she lowered her head and blushed. He looked away and cleared his throat. “I need to stay here for while, you don’t mind you?”

“Do I mind? Of course I do! You can’t just barge to into my place like this I barely know you!”

“I was hoping you’d see it differently”

“Why? Because you happened to be there when I needed help?”

He looked at her,” That ‘help’ involved saving your life and I had to do it twice.”

“Oh so now I ‘owe’ you! Now you can use that against me!”

He stood up “That’s not what I meant!”

“Then what!” She asked sharply her brown eyes burning coldly at him.

“Look I…” He broke off and sighed. “I was just really hoping you’d do me this favour.” He looked at her and his green gaze softened. Great. His eyes. Those amazing greens that looked ever more mesmerizing they burned softly into hers. Well, There was no resisting now.

“Ok” She finally said. “But just for tonight.”

“Thank you.” He smiled and though it was a small one, it was his first genuine one and it made her stomach do a flip-flop.

“Its fine, maybe I kinda owe you one anyway” She said taking her laptop into her room.

“You sleep on the couch again.” She said coming out with a pair of pillows and a blanket in her hand.

He turned and looked at her. His look turned into a stare.

“What?” She blushed again

“You just really look really different from the other days I saw you. More…” He’s gaze shifted down her body then up again, “laid back.”

“Yeah well believe it or not I don’t wear work clothes all the time.” She said handing him the blankets.

“Its amazing you look like an entirely different person.” He took them and sat down his gaze remaining focused on her.

“Ok… not sure if that’s a complement or not.” She began to feel extremely self-conscious.

“Oh it is.” He said studying her quite intensely, she was sure she was a walking tomato now.

“Well um… I’m gonna get back to work. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

Kayla sat cross-legged on her bed trying her best to work despite how hot she was beginning to feel. It was like a flash back from the night before when she had Bayne sleepover. But the way she felt right then couldn’t possibly be linked to Bayne. This extreme lustful heat that she started to feel when she thought of Bayne in the next room. Then her skin began to grow moist and her slowly started to close as she drifted off…

Kayla was standing in the middle of the room with hands roaming rounder her body as Bayne stood behind her. They went down her waist drawing her close to him her eyes remained closed as she gasped lightly.

His hands went to her dark flowing hair as his finger pushed silky curls away from her right ear and he whispered “Don’t you remember me Bianca?”

His voice and his breath against her chills down her spine, so soothing, so arousing and so familiar…

Long critique -- hope you don't mind

    "its almost midnight"
you're missing an apostrophe in the "it's". Also, I think the sentence would flow better if you had a comma after midnight.

    "which her made put"
    oops, word inversion

    "just miles away from her"
Just miles away? Isn't that, um, rather far away?

I like how when the character finds herself rescued, she immediately freaks out about her phone and her purse. I think that one sentence characterizes her perfectly. (claps!!)

*reads the description of her rescuer* mmmmm... yummy nice

"Due to how exhausted she felt drifted off to sleep quite shortly."
This sentence is....awkward; can I suggest a revision? Perhaps, "She was so stressed and exhausted from her eventful day, that she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow."

    "close too 9pm"
    wrong form of 'to'

    “Hey tall, dark and dorky!”
    LOVE it, haha!!

    "happened the managed"
    'the' should be 'she'

    "of name is “Bayne”’"
need punctuation at the end of this sentence (?).

This scene, by the way, is really nice. I like how they are so uncertain with each other, even though they've already interacted so much.

"Those amazing greens that looked ever more mesmerizing they burned softly into hers."
    Nice sentence.

*gets to the end of the story*
    Wait, what? IT ENDS THERE?!!?

That's it. I *did* like this story, but after *that* ending, I'm not too sure...

Just kidding, it was actually really good, and I'm so glad you ended it there. The cliffhanger ending really makes you think, "what the heck?"

Anyways, I would really suggest fixing the little typos listed above. This is a really nice story, I think, and should be enjoyed by many!

Thank so much for entering, and good luck!
