Question: Why does Mark even care to not be able to pass a day without thinking Melissa is hurt if he's been with others?
Answer: He doesn't care. He pretends to.

Question: Does Mark really believe that would be a sin against everything he loves, if he said he truly did love her at all?
Answer: Depends on how you think about it. I mean, if he did, then that means he didn't love her. If he didn't, that means he did love her, per se from love.

"Making a fresh start is incredibly hard, but perhaps if you used one that was already made you wouldn't have to make one yourself."
Melissa:
"If I think about you so much to the extent that I love you beyond reason, than why would I need to care about making or finding a fresh start?"
Question: If Melissa's feelings for Mark really reach such an extent, would there still be a point of her arguing with him over this matter?
Answer: There would still be a point, because if it even did reach such an extent, the love would drive her to continue talking with him, in hopes of hearing his voice so much that it would permanently be fixed in her memory, in case they broke up.12
