I knelt down and said a silent prayer as the images grew even wilder than before. For the spirits were cluttered amongst a purpled hazy sky.
I could now clearly see the tears in the sky that these so-called souls were pouring out of. They were vibrant and of every color imaginable and were snake-like in appearance with dead, lifeless sockets that once held eyes. Their jagged jaws all formed sinister grins, save maybe a few who's mouths drooped in anguish. They shrieked and laughed as they continued to tear the sky to shreds (almost as shredded as their forms seemed to be.) Some wept openly, yet their cries were chilling and we did not feel sympathy, for pure terror had engulfed us with their ear-shattering lamenting.
We could only gasp, as our voices were gone, when we came to the realization. These beings, every one of them, were once children of this earth. The birds, the foxes, the roaming herd animals, and the fishes but most importantly, the humans of this world. For those were the ones who shrieked with pleasure and pain, joy and sorrow...it set them apart from the animal souls, for they could only speak their native beast tongues and we did not understand.
Someone in the crowd may have whispered (for my mind was in a fog at that point, this chaos was maddening), "Why are they doing this?"
And we could not answer. For we were all unaware of who these people really once were. I never knew then that they were the pariah souls...the damned, the forgotten, the outcasts. Those in life who we never heard, the purposeless ones. Yet now i death, their meaning was clear: they were the ones to inherit and destroy the earth.
The ballad of lost souls.
