The Battlefield

The man looked ahead. He could see the enemies who were waiting. Drops of sweat covered his forehead. He knew that the result of war depended on this sole action. He knew that what he possessed now must be kept safe. It had not been achieved easily to be lost now at this stage. He had to carry it safely to the spot they had planned and it would be over. But whenever he looked at those tall men who were looking in his direction, his whole body started to tremble and his muscles would not obey the order of his mind. He knew he had a mission to accomplish and it had to be done by any means necessary. Even if he was not able to carry it out he had to pass it to one of his comrades who was in a better position. They had fought hard for so long that even the thought of failure at this stage was heart-breaking. The enemy was much stronger than them. It had won so many battles and the men were too experienced to be defeated. He looked at the round thing which had caused all the trouble. He remembered the difficult process they had to go through to get it. Two of his comrades had been badly injured and had been taken out of the battlefield. Thinking of them made his eyes full of tears. Suddenly he felt a strong urge to move. He started to run towards the men of enemy.

The tall men shouted loudly and rushed to get the thing he deemed so worthy like his own child. He knew that there was not much time left. He pushed past against the men.

First…Second…Third…

The men looked back in wonder. He had passed them like a flash of light. The men looked ahead. There was only one man left. The tall man looked angrily at him feeling the upcoming danger.

The tall man dived at his feet to grab the object which had caused the whole battle, but the man was ready for that. With a quick movement he passed against him and moved forward. There were only 3 or 4 steps to the spot.

One…Two…Three…

Once more he looked back. He saw his comrades who were now delighted, looking at him with eyes full of hope and the enemies who were now full of despair. He went one step ahead and it was over.

He could hear the shouts of many people who were jubilating. The people clapped for a long time. They were astonished. The young boy who had joined the team just one week ago had scored in the finals and their team had won the match.
