Summer Passed... Away (2004)Pieces of Me, pt 6

*Now, before I begin...1

I do understand that all season's pass2

to begin a new stage of the year,3

it's just that...well, it seems that summer gets shorter each year.4

I rose this morning around 6 am, poured my coffee and retreated to my5

front porch as I do each summer morning.6

As I sat there watching the Mourning Doves devour the safflower seeds7

in the feeders and drink from the seashells up~turned to catch water that splashes from a spewing frog at the edge of my pond, I noticed the fog that hung just above the ground.8

Now in Pennsylvania, being so mountainous, fog is nothing new,9

however in August it is quite unusual to hang so low with temperatures below 50 degree's.10

I sat there sipping my steaming cup, I felt that eery icy chill in the air that normally haunts us early September, but has crept in silently this first week in August. Autumn winds were blowing all to soon this year and all I could think was that summer is passing away.11

My beautiful Scarlet Tanagers that had graced my feeders with the Mourning Doves would not come out in the cold, damp fog to have their breakfast. They waited until the fog lifted and the sun shown through. Yet still, the air was chilled and fall like. 12

I had noticed that even the tree's were shedding their still, lush green leaves, like leaving a sad child behind. 13

Summer is passing away.14

Somewhere in the distance I heard the lamented sound of the Canadian Geese as they had already begun to fly southward, they sounded as if they were saying..."we're so sad to go so soon, but warmer winds are calling."15

Is it really true that summer gets shorter each year or is it just me, knowing that the "summer" of my life has passed away and that "winter" is just around the corner. Could Mother Nature be so cruel as to remind me that my "winter" is so close and that unlike herself, I cannot renew with my own personal spring?.*16

*My summer has passed away.*17

~"Beauty is that which attracts your soul, and that
which loves to give and not to receive. When you meet Beauty,
you feel that the hands deep within your inner self are stretched forth to bring her into the domain of your heart. It is the magnificence combined of sorrow and joy; it is the Unseen which you see, and the Vague which you understand, and the Mute which you hear - it is the Holy of Holies that begins in yourself and ends vastly beyond your earthly imagination "~

Oh Laura, Felt the sadness in this but the ending was what really did it....I cannot renew with my own personal spring. Life being a blessing but yet sometimes a sadness there is to in becoming older and feeling l ike things pass much to quickly or that chances or dreams needed to be more.......and age just sneeks up upon us....as life passes us by....Love to you dear great write...

This is so beautiful. Wonderful imagery and description.
I am packing my bags and moving in, lol!!! I know this feeling
all too well. It's been cooler than usual here and I could
relate to this all too well. Been used to waking up to my finches outside, but its been a bit cool for them in the morning, so they have been sleeping in.
Anyway, this is a very good write, I enjoyed it as I enjoy
    your work always. ~*Amy*~

This is amazing and quite true... just the other day i woke up and it was COLD... C-O-L-D COLD! in early august.... and i thought maybe today was rare or something or that it would pass by afternoon... but no it was disturbingly cold that day and for the rest of the week... it was a sad week... i was getting sick from the cold everday because i had cut my hair for the "warm weather..." and each of those nights i felt it get shorter... it was sad... sorry about the story-length comments but your story just triggered something i guess... it was so beautifully written with such imagery and feeling and i could relate to it so well (as you could see)... this is truely a great work.... thanks for sharing it....

Thank you so much sunrise777!!!! I really appreciate such a fast and pleasent response to my stories! I really enjoy writing my stories, i think even more than i do poetry, all my stories are drawn from my life, i'm not very good at just making things up but I do think reality can be so much more riveting! Thanks again friend! ~Laura
