Destiny

What would happen
If we were together forever?
We would be in the same
Elementary School,
Junior High School,
High School,
And College,
For twenty years,
We'd see each other every day.

But life doesn't work like that
One day we'll all have to go our separate ways
We'll all choose separate paths
Never to be seen together ever again
And if we do,
Another twenty years later,
Will you remember me?
And will I remember you?
Will we be best friends all over again?
And this time will we stay together?
Will we work together, live together?
Because we're not told what to do anymore
Or where to go
We'll find our soulmates
Get married,
And we'll all live together
In a beautiful house,
Down by the bay
Where we can see,
The sun rising and setting,
Our kids will play together
Our husbands will play Golf together
And we'll be at the Mall
Talking about how great life is
And how we want it
To stay like this forever

But then we realize that nothing is forever
It could just end when
You go to one High School
And I'll go to another
You'll be in one college in one continent
And I'll be in another
And we'll never see each other again.

What kind of lives do we live?
Created by destiny,
But lived by us.
If we were to change our destiny
And alter the future,
How would that be?

Author notes

I wrote this at the end of 6th grade, when two of my closest friends were going to be in the same class for Junior High while I went to a different class. I guess I was thinking about separation and stuff. I guess this was more of a rant than anything else. I wouldn't even call it a poem ^^

    This is such a great poem!, I'm going into high school next year, and I will be soooo upset if I'm not in the same form as my friends!

      Thanks Hey, you should be happy if you're in the same high school as your friends! I doubt that will apply to me as well, seeing as we don't all have the same opinions ^^

    Ohhhh!

    I know how this feels. So sad. Makes you wanna feel like you have no control, huh?
    But guess what? I WOULD call this a poem! And a very nice one at that!
    Just read all that emotion coming out, pouring from your heart! I would say that makes you a poet!
    *giggles and says 'Who's the poet, who's the poet!?' intead of who's the baby*
