Nightfall - Chapter 4

I walked upstairs with Thoris close behind. I wonder if he’ll use the knife or not; but I’m going the safer route either way. I’ll do what he says for now, Out of pure fear.1

Once we got upstairs, I noticed this wasn’t really a house; it was more of a cottage instead. It’s easily recognizable as an older, all wood one; but a cottage none the less. Looking left of me, I see a kitchen with all modern day appliances, that don’t match the rest of the older look; obviously newly bought. Off to the right was a door and another set of stairs; heading up to the bedroom and bath I would guess. And in front of me are some couches and a small T.V., Maybe this is what I’ve been hearing instead of people? 2

I got cut off in mid thought when Thoris announced, “You will go up those stairs there,” pointing off to our left, “And in the first bathroom on the right is where you will be getting ready.”3

I went to do exactly what he says and I noticed that he just sat down on the couch while I was going up the stairs. I went into the first door and say a beautiful slim black dress, just covered in sparkles. I couldn’t wait to get it on, so I showered quickly. It felt nice to be clean for a change, but it wasn’t until I was already in the dress and had my make-up done that I remember what it meant. The last thing I would ever want is so be away from my family for more than a month; Let alone killing them myself! I knew I needed to figure something out.4

When I went downstairs, Thoris was in a tuxedo waiting for me. He automatically grabbed me into a big hug, “You Look Amazing, My child, just like I imagined”5

“erm… well thanks Dad,” was all I could spit out.6

“Okay darling, lets get going, I didn’t expect you to take so long, so were a little bit late.”7

We stepped outside and I discovered that we were in a small forest, with only a long and this dirt road as an exit. Although I didn’t get to see much because Thoris blindfolded me before I was in the car. He had mumbled something about, waiting to reveal the location, while tying the cloth. But I thought nothing of it, and just brushed it out of my mind.8

I had started to doze off in the car; I figured that the ride must have been over an hour. Then again time moves slower than expected when your bored out of you mind and only have thoughts of your family’s death to keep you company.10

It was when the car came to a halt and the engine had been turned off that I woke up. Not to mention woke up to the realization that I never made a plan. What was I going to do now?12

Thoris untied the blindfold and slipped it off. I saw a huge gray brick mansion covered in vines, and more people then I could count. Just before he helped me out I saw that everyone was in black, and all holding wine glasses filled with thick red drinks. Once I got to my feet, Thoris slammed the door. Everyone turned to look I could hear whispers and mummers and I just knew everyone within sight was staring at me. So I did what comes natural when people are watching; I smiled.13

The minute I smiled, the crowd went back to what they were doing and Thoris walked me right up to the door. I followed and grabbed his hand for reassurance; He may have kidnapped me, but he showed me kindness, and I feel safe around him. 14

He looked down at me and smiled, “Are you ready?”15

“Yes father, I am ready for what you have planned.” I squeezed his hand and then followed him through the mansion. Its ceiling was as high as my whole house, and the chandelier had crystals all over it. He ushered me right through to the backyard and out onto the deck.16

I couldn’t help but to stop dead in my tracks; and I knew that Thoris had realized that I stopped as well. There in the middle of the lawn was my family, all chained to a metal post! Each of them had blindfolds over their eyes and cloths tied into their mouths! I could tell they were crying and trying to scream for help. I gasped at the sight, and when I did, everyone turned and stared. This time, I couldn’t smile; I started to cry instead.
